With the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on the horizon, Pokemon Unite has the perfect opportunity to introduce new Pokemon.

Pokemon Unite is the most recent release from the Pokemon franchise, and it's been a surprisingly big hit. Back when it was announced, it was met with some backlash because it basically looked like a reskinned League of Legends. However, now that Pokemon Unite is finally out, many fans have been having a blast with it, albeit despite a few qualms as well.

One of those qualms is how few Pokemon there are on Pokemon Unite's roster. Currently, the game only includes 21 playable Pokemon, half of which come from the Kanto region's Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. However, this is with the assumption that, like most MOBAs, Pokemon Unite will add Pokemon incrementally as time goes on. It's currently unclear when or how often more Pokemon will become available, but the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is the perfect time to release some species from the Sinnoh region.

Soon, Diamond and Pearl will see remakes in the form of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, for which fans have been waiting patiently. The original games were regarded quite highly at release, even better than FireRed and LeafGreen and Ruby and Sapphire. Additionally, its starter Pokemon, Chimchar, Turtwig, and Piplup, are some of the most popular out there, with the penguin-water Pokemon being at the top of the list.

Pokemon Unite took several species from across the generations, though most of them came from the first generation of games, including the most recent pair, Sword and Shield, offering up the evolved starter Pokemon Cinderace. However, there are only two Sinnoh Pokemon currently on Pokemon Unite's roster: Lucario and Garchomp. This leaves not only room to introduce many more Sinnoh Pokemon species around the release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but also the perfect opportunity to promote the games.

It would be interesting to see The Pokemon Company somehow tie in the release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl with the new MOBA game through some kind of event. Much like League of Legends, some playable Pokemon can only be purchased through Aeos Coins or Gems, meaning spending basic or premium currency. However, Pokemon Unite does have its own version of a battle pass, where players can win prizes through a checklist of achievements. Perhaps Unite Licenses in the form of Sinnoh Pokemon could be limited-time prizes around the release of the Diamond and Pearl remakes. At the very least, it's a great time to release Sinnoh Pokemon.

Aside from the starters, Sinnoh also has an array of powerful Pokemon that would be perfect for the Unite roster. Luxray, which evolves from Shinx, could be a great All-Around. Togekiss, which evolves from the fan-favorite first-gen Pokemon Togepi, sounds perfect as a Support, and Weavile's design makes for an excellent Speedster.

If not Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, then the prequel game Pokemon Legends: Arceus will also take players to the Sinnoh region and could be yet another opportunity to release more fighters in Pokemon Unite through a franchise-wide promotion.

Pokemon Unite is out now for the Switch and is coming to Mobile in September 2021.
