As Genshin Impact players gradually level their characters, they will find that the material requirements significantly increase for each character ascension. While most of the materials required for character ascensions can be easily farmed, one of the most tedious material types to obtain are the various "local specialties."
Genshin Impact players will find that while some local specialties such as Windwheel Aster are plentiful, others, such as Silk Flowers, are in short supply throughout Mondstadt and Liyue. This difficulty in obtaining certain flowers is compounded by the fact that after players have obtained all of a specific local specialty available, they must wait three days before that particular flower respawns.

Developer miHoYo has tried to alleviate this grind through the introduction of the gardening system in the housing realm. Through this newly added system, players are able to select the local specialties that they wish to farm and grow them within their Teapot realm. It is worth mentioning that before players are able to access the gardening system, they must first unlock the Teapot Realm. Once they have the realm unlocked, they can head to the realm and speak to Tubby in order to start farming crops.
Players are able to purchase the items required to start farming through the Realm Depot store which is accessed through Tubby. In the store, 2 new categories have been added in the 2.0 update which include "Riches of the Realm," and "Creatures of the Realm."
In the Riches of the Realm category, players are able to purchase each of the garden plots required to plants seeds. There are a total of 3 plot types available, and each plot type is used to grow certain types of seeds. Because each of the plots cost a total of 300 realm currency, players should make note of what seeds they intend to farm first so that they don't accidentally purchase the wrong plot type.
In the Creatures of the Realm category, players are able to purchase the seeds required to grow their local specialties. Each of the seeds costs 5 realm currency and a maximum of 5 seeds can be purchased for each specific plant type. As a result, players will, unfortunately, be unable to plant multiple plots of a single seed type due to the store limit. Players should also note that like other items in the realm depot store, the seeds available for sale will restock once per week.
To plant the seeds, players must open up their placement menu and select the landform category. In this category, players will find a new sub-category that has been added specifically for fields.
Once all of the plots have been placed, exit the placement menu and walk up to the fields. Players will now have the option to interact with the fields and select what seeds they want to start growing.
After players have planted their seeds, it will take 2 days and 22 hrs for the plants to fully mature and become harvestable. While there may be a lot of patience involved in this system, it is especially useful as a means to obtain rare materials such as Naku Weeds and Silk Flowers.
Genshin Impact is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5, with a Switch version in development.
