Thanks to recent leaks over the past few days, anticipation for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War season has been on the rise. The countdown to Season 5 officially kicked off earlier this week as the outro cinematic continued the overarching story with Wraith confirming that Jackal took down the satellites and that the Verdansk test sites were looking good, clearing the way for a new arrival. The trailer finishes with a shot on a mysterious package being picked up by an unknown individual.
Thanks to the Season 5 reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, players now know that Perseus has kicked off a new offensive thanks to the cybersecurity expert Kitsune. The hacker is shown unleashing a broadcast that seemingly activates sleeper agents allowing her to escape a NATO listening post while causing plenty of trouble for Woods and Hudson. The season focuses on the idea of Double Agents through a new game mode, where matches assign double agents on teams to sabotage missions.

In addition to new game modes and maps, four new weapons are being added to Season 5 with three at launch and the final one being added in the weeks to come. The first is the previously leaked TEC-9 SMG, a weapon that has seemingly divided the community over its addition. Many are worried that the high damage weapon will not only dominate the new meta and potentially ruin weapon balancing, but in the hands of hackers, cause even more headaches for legitimate players.
The other launch weapon is the EM2 assault rifle, which is confirmed to be a well rounded weapon with good firing control thanks to a slower rate of fire. Both weapons will be available for free inside of Black Ops Cold War, while Warzone players can unlock the EM2 at Tier 15 and Tec-9 at Tier 31. For those who want to mix things up a bit, the Cane is also available as a melee weapon.
Later this season, the Marshal pistol will be available for use which is described as a predecessor to a similar pistol from Black Ops 3. This is a hand loaded double barrel pistol firing 12-gauge shells. Naturally, this makes it a strong weapon to use at close range and could even down an opponent in one hit. Both the Marshal and Cane can be unlocked through completing an in-game challenge for the base version, or purchased through an accompanying Warzone bundle.
While Call of Duty: Warzone remains incredibly popular, the brand has seemingly taken a hit as of late not just due to the legal troubles facing Activision Blizzard, but the uptick of hacking that has impacted the experience. Numerous Call of Duty players like NICKMERCS have decided to take a break from the game to play other things. Currently, it's unknown if Season 5 will be enough to entice longtime players back.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
