A petition has been signed by thousands of fans to have a building in Edmonton, Alberta named after The Suicide Squad star Nathan Fillion.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max, and the hype for the film remains extremely high at this point. Fan expectations have been through the roof and most reviews are praising the DC film. However, during the promotional campaign, a petition involving co-star Nathan Fillion, who will be seen playing T.D.K. in The Suicide Squad, has caught the attention of the director James Gunn and the cast of the DC film.

Started by Lauren Daugherty, an announcer at a radio station based in Edmonton, the campaign urges the city and its mayor to consider naming a building after the Canadian actor. Turns out that the City of Edmonton is converting a few downtown parking lots into a new park and fans want the city to construct a small building in this park and name it "The Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion." This petition now has the support of The Suicide Squad cast and director.

A promotional video was shared by Gunn, Warner Bros., and some of the cast members on Twitter that shows them offering full support to the quirky petition. The video begins with comic undertones, similar to the ones used in The Suicide Squad, wherein John Cena, Gunn and Idris Elba are finding it hard to believe that such a petition even exists. However, soon the cast members offer their support to building The Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion, including Flula Borg, Margot Robbie, Daniela Melchior, Jai Courtney, Mayling Ng, and David Dastmalchian.

Even though Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad, finds it to be “so funny,” she entirely supports the fan campaign and hopes that Edmonton approves the construction of The Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion. “I’m intrigued, excited, and eager to see how this story plays out,” Cena, who plays Peacemaker in the film, is heard saying. Gunn, on the other hand, jokes about how there needs to be a building named after Fillion, but it should be “far enough away that it doesn’t have to be too close to my house,” and so Edmonton seems like the perfect spot to the director.

Dastmalchian, who portrays Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, jokes about how he would love to visit the pavilion and host a barbecue or a picnic there. The cast and director have a great time at the expense of their co-star and it seems like they are all hoping for this petition to come to fruition just so that they can continue to poke fun at Fillion. Even fans are jumping on board and making several jokes on social media about the petition, using words that rhyme with “pavilion” to emphasize their point.

They do, however, seem to miss one word, but Fillion has them covered, as the video ends with him saying, “they missed one in a million.” It will be interesting to see how this petition pans out.
