Battling demons is often a daunting task, as combating supernatural forces often requires great physical strength, superior mental fortitude, or both. In Black Book, by Russian indie developer Morteshka, players will have to defeat evil spirits of all kinds, though not with swords or spells, but with their words.

However, as the card-based combat in this sinister digital adventure can have a bit of a learning curve for some players, it would ideal to stock up on consumables that can heal the player as well as grant other battle-related boons.
Since there is a lot going on, in addition to the learning curve, it can be a bit tricky to notice everything that is happening as well as challenging to remember all the new words and concepts being introduced. As such, it's possible to overlook icons hovering in the corners of the screens, especially when being stared down by a menacing demon composed of shadows and ill intent.

However, once one takes a look around after getting familiar with Black Book's interface, gamers will likely find the Consumables Menu in the bottom left of the screen. Simply press the button or key next to it to open up a small menu that displays the consumable items that are in one's inventory. Such consumables will often be herbs, which can grant different effects depending on their species.
From this Consumable Menu, players can use a herb by highlighting it with one's cursor and interacting with it. This will thankfully not take up one's turn, so be sure to use a consumable if things are looking disadvantageous.
This is by far the most common herb to be found in the game, which is ideal, as Adam's Head is a great way to heal both in and outside of combat. Players can consider this orange plant to be much like a small health potion, as each heals 5 HP, but can thankfully be found in nature.
Adam's Head can be found in fields and in grassy areas, so make sure to explore thoroughly to find as many of these helpful herbs as possible. Items only show up if the player is close to them, so traversing every inch of each screen is recommended.
Much like Adam's Head, Prikrysh-Herb can be found in fields and other grassy areas, however, these purple flowers are less common. This is because, although Adam's Head is more useful due to being a recovery item, Prikrysh-Herb is arguably more powerful.
When used, this violet herb will grant the player 5 Defense during the turn that a Prikrysh-Herb is consumed. This grants the ability to tank through a powerful demonic attack or to negate minor ones while allowing the player to focus on using offensive cards.
