Players of Red Dead Redemption 2 have the ability to make their own version of Arthur Morgan. They can grow out and slick back the character's hair, pick out different clothing for him to wear, and make a number of changes to his facial hair. This flexibility has led to a number of fan creations in Red Dead Redemption 2. The latest of these has Arthur donning the uniform of a Union soldier from the American Civil War.
Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in 1899, 34 years after the end of that conflict, in a fictionalized version of the American Wild West. Despite the gap in years, players often run across those still impacted by the war in the course of the game. These interactions typically come from the Confederate or Southern side of the conflict while this outfit is from the Union or Northern side.

U/Yestyzesty did well to bring the look of the Union Army to Arthur Morgan. The Union Army donned deep blue coats with a matching hat and light blue pants. This player's Arthur Morgan matches that outfit quite well as each piece of the outfit hits the mark. There isn't an exact replica of each piece of the actual Union uniform in Red Dead Redemption 2 but these choices are most likely the closest examples there are. And the facial hair option they chose is a common look from the American Civil War period. The only option that sticks out is the pair of working jeans but their blue coloring does work well with the outfit.
Arthur Morgan, had he been born decades earlier, would have likely ended up on the northern side of the conflict. Though, knowing his path, it is doubtful he would have taken heed of the draft notice. Either way, u/Yestyzesty did a great job of dressing his Arthur Morgan to match what he would look like had he ended up in the American Civil War like Dutch's father in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The choice to position Red Dead Redemption 2 as a prequel to the first game put it in a uniquely interesting position in American history. This time period allowed for the developers to touch on the American Civil War and its impact on certain communities without feeling out of place. And it also allows for a bit more of a Wild West feel than the first game in the series.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
