Depending on who is asked, Abandoned is either an elaborate ruse dedicated to Kojima's next PS5 project or a smalltime developer in Blue Box Game Studios getting in way over its head. Rumors aplenty have called the game the actual release of everything from a new Silent Hills to Metal Gear, with the Abandoned lead saying that these Silent Hills comparisons have had a negative impact on the game's development. What could have sealed the deal, the demo, was delayed, so fans continue to speculate.
Now, inadvertently or otherwise, it seems Hideo Kojima himself has tossed fuel on the fire with an either well- or ill-timed tweet, the right words to reference Abandoned, and the right images to reference Silent Hills.

As seen below, Kojima sent out a tweet discussing a piece of reading material. It's not usual for Kojima to talk about his interests outside gaming on Twitter, but a lot of things caught the eyes of Silent Hill fans. First off, the work is titled, "The Murder Case of Abandoned Amusement Park." That word, Abandoned, indubitably caught eyes of many conspiracy theorists online. Secondly, there is an image of an animatronic rabbit, which many fans immediately associated with Silent Hill's Robbie the Rabbit. Those unaware should know that Robbie is an anthropomorphic rabbit, the mascot of Lakeside Amusement Park, and a character who has appeared in many Silent Hill games.
The timing of the tweet can also be considered suspicious. While posted in the middle of the night in the United States, it was around 2 PM in Japan on August 12. This marks P.T.'s 7-year anniversary, as it originally released on August 12, 2014. Many likely know that P.T. itself was a playable teaser for Silent Hills, and thus, there's a lot of small things in this tweet that seem out of place. In the comments, many are pointing to this being more proof that Abandoned isn't exactly what it seems, as this tweet references so much, comes from Kojima himself, and includes "Abandoned."
It's hard, even now, to know exactly what to think. If it were anyone but Kojima, it may be chocked up to weird circumstances and nothing more, yet Kojima has a history of playing with his audience. After all, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was originally just "The Phantom Pain" and was made by a "Moby Dick Studios." It could be that Blue Box is yet another cover, or it could be that it's not. It's really hard to say for sure right now.
For now, fans will need to wait and see. It's easy to see how all of this could connect with Abandoned's demo delay, yet it's also simple enough to be a rather serious series of unconnected and unfortunate events.
Abandoned is currently in development for PC and PS5.
