Season 5 is coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War soon, and it promises to bring a lot of changes with it. As per usual, the season will bring a number of new guns, maps, operatives, and cosmetics to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Like previous seasons the new items will have to be unlocked by leveling up this season's battle pass, but the season will also apply to the popular battle royale mode, Call of Duty: Warzone.
The additions that don't have to be unlocked, however, are the new multiplayer maps and content coming to Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode. However, the season will also bring a new game mode to the multiplayer rotation called Double Agent. The mode is entirely new to the Call of Duty series, and it gives players a lot to be excited about. Double Agent looks to be something fully unique to Call of Duty and Black Ops Cold War, which has raised some questions among the game's community. There is already a lot of information available about Double Agent mode, however, so players can get ready to jump into it when the mode launches with Season 5.

Many players are already comparing Call of Duty's Double Agent game mode to Among Us, and the comparison is relatively accurate. Double Agent features social deduction features similar to Among Us. The mode splits up to ten players into two teams each round: Operatives and Double Agents. The objectives of the mode are rather simple, Operatives want to deduce who are the Double Agents and kill them while Double Agents want to kill all of the Operatives. To do this, Double Agents can either kill them in conventional ways, or they can successfully plant bombs across the map that release radiation to close off sections of the map for Operatives.
At the start of a round players are only equipped with a pistol. There then begins a Preparing Stage that allows players to travel around the map and gather a variety of weapons that are spread across the map. After the Preparing Stage is finished, players will also gain specific skills and equipment tailored to their role as they try to navigate each round. The weapons spread across the map are intended to help keep matches balanced, while also allowing players to try and use the loadouts of other players to deduce their roles in the match. Of course, players are really going to want to use voice chat to play Double Agent in Black Ops Cold War.
Operatives have very few options in Double Agent, except for the one Operative player each round who is selected to be the Investigator. The Investigator gets a number of skills and pieces of equipment to help them gather information during the match to figure out who the Double Agents are. The special equipment that they get throughout the match are Trophy Systems, Stimshots, and Hand Cannons.
However, the Investigator's strongest aspects come from their skills that let them see the footprints of an attacker by a dead body as well as the ability to put a Wanted Order out on other players that they are suspicious of. It is a big part of the mode that sets Double Agent apart from other social deduction games like Among Us.
The lack of equipment that Operatives have access to will make them extremely vulnerable throughout the match. Of course, they will have the loadout that they are able to put together at the start of the round, but playing an Operative will mostly be focused on keeping an eye on other players and helping the Investigator deduce who the Double Agents are. Odds are, however, that most of players' time will be spent as regular Operatives.
Investigators, on the other hand, will have a lot of responsibility on their hands, and they will likely be very high-value targets for the Double Agents. This will likely make many Investigators want to hide their role for as long as possible because if they die the Operatives team has no good way to find clues. Either way, Operative players will want to get their hands on some strong guns like Black Ops Cold War's LC10 to help them take down the Double Agents as fast as possible.

Double Agents will likely be the role that most players want to get when they queue into a match of Double Agent. While playing as a Double Agent, players will get exclusive access to Gas Mines, Counter Spy Planes, Combat Bows, and Attack Helicopters. Double Agents are also able to avoid damage from radiation that seeps out of bombs they place, letting them access areas of the map that other players may not be able to later in the game. For loadouts, Double Agents will likely want weapons that can kill quickly like sniper rifles or Call of Duty Season 5's new Marshal pistol so that they can seize opportunities for a kill quickly and run away.
Playing a Double Agent will likely be very difficult in the mode, however. Double Agent players will have to be very selective of when they strike, and may have to take their time to deduce who the Investigator is so that they can strike that player first and get the upper hand. Smart use of the radiation from their bombs will also be necessary, as it will allow them to control the flow of the map, but running through the radiation unharmed will be an instant red flag for the other players.
Either way, Double Agent looks like it will be a great new mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer and it will be very interesting to see how the game's community receives it. Hopefully, Call of Duty will continue to experiment and try out new ideas.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 launches on August 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
