Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War reveals further details on Season 5 Zombies, including what the new Tesla Storm Field Upgrade tiers do.

After an unfortunate delay, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 is slated to go live tonight. With the advent of the latest season, developer Treyarch is releasing more details on the content players are expecting, including what each of the new Skill Tiers does for the new Zombies mode Field Upgrade, Tesla Storm.

Treyarch and publisher Activision began revealing significant details about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Season 5 content, including confirmation of the new Field Upgrade and Perk coming to Zombies. While previous information gave a general description for each new item's functionality, the latest batch of info breaks down what abilities each tier grants the user.

Detailed in a post on the official Black Ops Cold War website, the Tesla Storm Field Upgrade will shoot out lightning between the user and their allies, stunning and damaging enemies. Its base ability generates lightning that connects to other players for 10 seconds, stunning and damaging normal zombies. The first tier doubles the damage dealt to those who get stunned, while the second increases Tesla Storm's duration to 15 seconds. For the third tier, special enemies become affected by the lightning. Tier 4 pivots a bit, granting affected players a 25% movement speed boost. The fifth and final tier enables the Field Upgrade to stun and damage elite enemies.

In addition to revealing the specifics on Tesla Storm, the blog also mostly confirms the leak for the Death Perception tiers, Season 5's new Zombies Perk. Last week, an industry insider leaked what Death Perception's tier levels would entail the majority of which turned out to be correct. The first tier increases the mini-map update rate, the second gives enemies danger indicators when behind the player, and the third grants 20% more looted Salvage. The one real difference is the Perk's fourth tier of armor penetration, where the actual percentage is 25 instead of 10. The final tier keylines nearby chests and items, invaluable for Outbreak.

While Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War does add a variety of new Zombies content, one thing fans are disappointed with is the lack of a new round-based map. In the nine months the game has been out, only three traditional Zombies maps have come out. Players did get Mauer der Toten fairly recently, but many veterans of the mode have made it known that they'd like to see a Zombies Chronicles 2 get made, rather than wait five months in between releases. Those fans may actually get their wish, as there are reports that Zombies Chronicles 2 is happening.

Tesla Storm looks like it'll function similarly to Black Ops 4's Serket's Kiss, except players act as the scorpion, which should make for a fun experience. Despite Black Ops Cold War still having at least one more season after this new one, Call of Duty is already looking towards the next game in the series. A teaser for CoD 2021 is in Season 5's artwork, potentially confirming a longstanding theory about the game's title.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
