Microsoft Flight Simulator is all about the journey. Players can fly over any location they wish, even finding their own homes in this flight simulator. One thing that players will have to learn how to do in order to get there is be able to talk to ATC.

Air Traffic Control refers to the operators that help planes to land safely without crashing into one another. Regardless of which of the many Microsoft Flight Simulator's planes players choose to fly, they will need ATC to help them take off, land, and fly safely to the right airstrip. While this is a feature that can be automated, many players will want to get the real-life piloting experience; this will require them to manually keep track of everything in the plane and connect with ATC on the regular.

One of the best tips for getting started in Microsoft Flight Simulator is to learn that both the system and the language is important to successfully communicate with the ATC. In order to connect with the ATC at all, players will have to tune their radios to the correct frequency. Pressing C will bring up the menu. Players can adjust to the correct frequency on this screen. There is also an autotune feature for this, which can be toggled on and off.

  • X - Frequency Swap
  • SHIFT, CTRL, Z - ADF
  • SHIFT, CTRL, PGDOWN - Decrease NAV1 Frequency

In order to communicate properly with ATC in the Hall of Fame video game Microsoft Flight Simulator, players will have to use the ATC menu to respond to ATC's commands and inquiries. This menu can be moved on the player's screen or resized as needed to keep it handy which still paying attention to the other aspects of the plane. When players can connect with the tower, there will be an option to "Choose a Message to Transmit." When players don't need to connect or cannot, the message will read: "There are currently no messages to transmit."

  • ATC selections can range from 0-9
  • In Microsoft Flight Simulator's multiplayer, players can connect and chat over the internet.
  • If two planes attempt to connect to ATC on the same frequency at the same time, their messages will not go through. Instead, players will hear a squealing sound over the comm.
  • Players can choose their own pilot voices in the Setting > Options > ATC menu
  • Players can change the name that ATC calls their planes in the ATC menu.
  • If finding the radio frequency is too hard, players and turn on autotuning.
  • If players don't wish to connect to the ATC at all, they can turn on the AI that will do it for them as part of autopiloting in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Look for these settings in the Tool Bar > AI menu.
