Despite being considered one of Nintendo's longest games, a fan manages to speedrun the entire thing in less than thirty minutes.

The 2017 Switch and Wii U, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, is hailed as a marvel of open world beauty, receiving top scores nearly across the board. Its gorgeous and expansive realm is probably one of the title's most intriguing aspects, not just in terms of visual appeal. However, despite BotW being one of the longest Nintendo games, it hasn't stopped one person from zooming through Hyrule in record time.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, speedrunner Player 5 shows off their nippy skills in being able to complete the entirety of Breath of the Wild in less than half an hour. The exact time quoted has it down as 25 minutes and 30 seconds. A quick search on YouTube shows that the previous world record was 25 minutes and 33 seconds, which means Player 5 just scrapes into the lead with their effort. Although, three seconds is a long time in speedrunning.

The player simply races from start to finish, wasting no time and making headway as soon as Link is in their control. This is typical for speedruns, especially for "any percent" runs in which players just need to get to the very end of the game quickly, ignoring unimportant side quests or anything that could potentially slow them down. This is different to the run tactic that involved a player stopping to visit every dog in Breath of the Wild. While it's not the quickest way to beat the game, it was a popular way to play the game for a while.

Like a lot of good speedrunners, Player 5 commentates throughout, giving some background into the tricks they use, and the glitches they exploit, even using an amiibo to assist them. No matter how perfect a game may be, and the four-year-old Legend of Zelda game is considered one of the best in the series, there are always ways for gamers to bypass certain areas, or use the software's programming against itself, in order to shave off milliseconds of time, challenging themselves to beat the game as quickly as possible.

In general, the fact that Player 5 was able to beat the whole game, even on any percent run, in just 25 minutes is very impressive. BotW is not small by any stretch, so to pull off such a feat requires an enormous amount of practice and patience. It remains to be seen whether the next challenge will be to speedrun the game while blindfolded.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
