Microsoft announces four games that will be leaving the Xbox Game Pass subscription service (via Cloud, Console, and/or PC) on August 31.

Month over month, Xbox Game Pass only seems to grow, but it does lose a couple of games every couple of weeks as well. For example, on August 15th, console and PC subscribers lost Train Sim World 2020, Don't Starve: Giant edition, Darksiders Genesis, and the original Final Fantasy 7. Xbox Game Pass on PC also specifically lost Crossing Souls and Ape Out.

Now, Microsoft has announced the slate of new Xbox Game Pass releases replacing those in the remainder of August. From today, August 17, to August 26, this includes Humankind (PC), Need for Speed Heart, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (all on Cloud), Recompile, Train Sim World 2, Twelve Minutes, Psychonauts 2, and Myst (all on Cloud, Console, and PC). Following all of these additions, though, Xbox Game Pass is losing four games on August 31.

Cloud and console players will lose NBA 2K21, which dominates as part of the best-selling basketball video game series to date. Notably, it's uncertain why Microsoft removes game from time to time, with deals and business practices all involved, but it's worth noting that after removing Train Sim World 2020, it added Train Sim World 2. As such, it wouldn't be all too surprising to hear about NBA 2K22, which releases on September 10, joining Xbox Game Pass some time before the end of the year.

On cloud, console, and PC, players are losing Blair Witch, Double Kick Heroes, and Stranger Things 3: The Game. Blair Witch is a Bloober Team developed-horror game based on the popular movie of the same name, while Double Kick Heroes is a mixed genre rhythm and shoot 'em up game where players must "survive on the highway to hell" by killing monsters with a gundillac. Stranger Things 3: The Game is the official game of season 3, where players check out the main events from the series while also exploring new quests, interactions, and secrets.

While it is always sad to see any game leave Xbox Game Pass, there is two silver linings here. First, with two weeks until they leave, that's plenty of time for players to finish up and beat each of these games. None of them are particularly long and a playthrough is a good way to bid farewell. At the same time, for those who simply cannot beat all of these games or are wanting to hold onto them a little longer, Game Pass subscribers can pick the games up at a 20% off discount to keep them forever.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of free games every month.
