In some lighthearted news for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Hemsworth, known for playing the Norse God of Thunder Thor, went to social media to tweet out his excitement for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Playing the titular character will be Simu Liu, making this Marvel’s first Asian-led superhero film. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be an action-adventure film that will introduce the infamous ten rings, re-introduce the mysterious Mandarin, and also bring back an old villain from the MCU's past.
Shang-Chi is an iconic character in the Marvel comics who is known for his exceptional ability in combat. Not only is he a weapons master, but Shang-Chi is also proficient in the use of aura, which allows him to channel and enhance his own physical stamina and strength. Shang-Chi has also worked with many of Marvel’s iconic characters, including Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Hemsworth’s previously mentioned tweet showed his excitement to welcome Liu into the family of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Liu responded with the iconic Pikachu “shocked” face, where his reaction is open for interpretation. The Shang-Chi lead star will be joining the ever-growing cast of characters as Marvel Studios enters Phase 4 of its long-running cinematic franchise. The Canadian-Chinese actor has been known to express his gratitude for being a part of this universe, even dating back to a tweet from years ago where he “spoke his role into existence." It seems that now he’s finally getting his just due and able to celebrate the hard work and long days of patience he’s been having for this day to come.
Seeing Shang-Chi get his just due is a sign of good things to come for the Marvel Universe. Many fans are excited about this film, especially now that it is being praised for its action. Shang-Chi, like Iron Man, wasn’t a popular or widely known hero but maybe the movie will bring him to that next level by making him an A-tier Marvel hero. Iron Man was barely talked about before the 2008 movie and now it seems there isn’t a single Marvel property that doesn’t mention him.
While Shang-Chi is a welcome addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many are anticipating the untapped heroes of the Marvel Universe. The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Blade, and the villain Doctor Doom have been anticipated by fans for a very long time. With that being said, Shang-Chi hopefully has some trick up its sleeve to bring fans into the next wave of Marvel’s new phase.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be available in theaters on September 3rd, 2021.
