With Battlefield 2042 soon to release, many have returned to Battlefield 4 to keep the action going, but one bug is still ruining the game.

Gamers have jumped back on Battlefield 4 in droves to keep the action going as the highly anticipated Battlefield 2042 looms just around the corner. However, many are unable to proceed past one mission in the first-person shooter because of a game-breaking glitch.

Although the campaign mode wasn't universally acclaimed, it persists to be a portion of the series many fans gravitate to when compared to the rest of the action-packed Battlefield franchise. The mode mainly involves traversing mini-sandbox-style levels, in some cases using vehicles to traverse the environment. In total, seven missions make up the entire campaign, but the third mission, South China Sea, is causing some players to give up on the game.

The guns-a-blazing undertaking revolves around the members of Tombstone Squad as they engage Chinese forces on the USS Titan. But the trouble rises when Agent Kovic sends orders to locate the Hatch-G46 along with the following objectives:

  • Board the stricken carrier.
  • Locate valuable intel.
  • Escape back to the USS Valkyrie.

All should go to plan until soldiers have to descend underwater as the Hatch-G46 is flooded and getting out of the wreckage alive is a problem. Especially when a major bug makes it impossible to swim against the current, leaving players to drown and the mission unbeatable. This is just one of the many glitches that are yet to be patched and still plague the Battlefield franchise.

Contrary to popular belief, no matter how many times players restart the game or load from the checkpoint, this will not fix the inability to swim forward. Some players suggested pausing and then resuming the game; however, this will only progress the mission so much.

A more effective solution means swimming sideways. This is easier said than done, as it can be quite tricky to pull off the sporadic paddling due to forwards pushing force. To achieve this motion, move ahead whilst also looking as far left as possible. If done correctly, the current shall carry the player to the objective. Although it should be noted that this does work best on consoles or for PC gamers using a controller; this is because revolving leftwards is extra effortless with an analog stick than a mouse.

Another method means re-assigning the game's key binding, which is the act of altering keys or buttons to various controls rather than using the default layout. In the game's settings, invert all of the axis controls. For example, looking left now looks right. After doing so, the bug should disappear and players will be able to conquer the mission.

For players on PC, there is a much easier solution available. Pressing Alt and Tab at the same time will result in the PC jumping from Battlefield 4 to the desktop. Immediately executing the same duel key input again prompts the game to re-appear, but players will likely be able to swim against the current now and then regroup with their squadmates to beat the mission.

Battlefield 4 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
