A diehard PS4 fan creates a custom DualShock 4 controller with gorgeous wood grain and bullet shells for buttons.

Fans may be enamored with the PS5 at the moment, but that doesn't mean that the PS4 doesn't have its own hardcore supporters. This Redditor must be one of them, as they have created a gorgeous custom DualShock 4 controller. The controller looks as though it is made of wood, and the buttons have been replaced with bullet shells to add to the aesthetic. The design is simple yet attractive, much like the shape of the DualShock 4 controller itself, and others in the comments seem to be loving it.

Every now and then fans will share their own custom controllers online, and the beautiful designs never cease to amaze. While many custom PS4 controllers showcase specific games or anime franchises, this one opts for a much more minimalistic design. The wood grain looks smooth and the bullets fit really nicely with the design, what more could one ask for?

In the comments of the post, the creator gives a little bit more insight on how they made it. The "wood" on the controller is actually a plastic shell that they bought off of Amazon, and the bullet buttons were purchased as well. When asked how much it cost them to make, the project came out to around $60 not including the price of the DualShock 4 controller itself. Other than these two features, eagle-eyed fans might notice that even the sticks look different, as they are metal analogue sticks that are shaped and textured to make gripping them easier.

Interestingly, it seems as though players are somewhat split on the decision to use bullet shells as the buttons. On the one hand, they are seen frequently on custom controllers, but on the other, they do go very well with the wooden look of this particular one. The creator of this controller explains that they went with the bullet shells for the buttons because there weren't really any other options. If it were available, they would have preferred to use metal buttons instead to match the analogue sticks, but they couldn't find any.

Though it may seem intimidating to try and create a custom PS4 controller like this, the process is only as difficult as players make it. Casings like this one can be purchased online from retailers like Amazon, and actually putting them on is easy enough with the help of a YouTube video guide. Hopefully this wooden controller inspires others to deck out their own hardware.

The PS4 is available now.
