Call of Duty: Vanguard has officially been revealed, and it looks like fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will want to keep their eyes on it.

After months of leaks and rumors, Call of Duty: Vanguard has been officially revealed. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: Vanguard takes Call of Duty back to World War 2, but in an entirely new way. Not only does it span four theaters of the war, but it also includes a Zombies mode developed by Treyarch Games, new technology features, and what Sledgehammer promises will be an innovative multiplayer experience.

All of the new features, including the game's integration at launch with Call of Duty: Warzone, are undoubtedly exciting for fans. There is a lot of potential for what Call of Duty: Vanguard's World War 2 setting could bring to Call of Duty: Warzone, including a new map and a variety of new weaponry for players to loot during matches. Of course, Treyarch Studios working on the game's Zombies mode will also likely satisfy the Zombies community as well, so Vanguard could be close to the ultimate Call of Duty package for fans. However, fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare should also keep an eye on Vanguard, as there is quite a lot in the game that they may like as well.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Uses the Same Engine as Modern Warfare

One of the biggest successes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was its engine that was brand new at the time. The engine was praised for its high fidelity visuals, technical performance, and how it handled player movement and gun control in a way that made the game feel more modern, while still maintaining Call of Duty's signature speed.

However, Modern Warfare's follow-up, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was unable to take advantage of the engine as the game was developed with an incredibly quick turnaround time that was also hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, publisher Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Vanguard will be using the same engine as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

To some fans, the similarity may not be that important, but for players who loved Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it should make a big difference. Having a similar engine gives players an idea of what to expect from Vanguard's handling and controls, as well as how its guns will feel. The engine will also have a big impact on the game's visuals and technical performance, which should help make Call of Duty: Vanguard's campaign as beautiful as possible. For players more interested in the game's multiplayer offerings, however, the engine also gives them an idea of what to expect; the game will likely feature similar time to kill, movement, and weapon control.

The Next Evolution of Modern Warfare's Gunfight is in Call of Duty: Vanguard

One of the standout new modes from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was Gunfight. The mode saw two teams of two facing off against one another on tight maps in round-based engagements where players only have one life each. The mode was a quick success within the community, as players enjoyed its high-stakes gameplay and its lack of player-made loadouts or killstreaks. The game mode soon received in-game tournaments and new variations. Fans of Modern Warfare are in luck, however, because Call of Duty: Vangaurd multiplayer will feature Champion Hill, which Sledgehammer is dubbing the next evolution of Gunfight.

Not a whole lot is known about Champion Hill as of yet, but the official announcement of Call of Duty: Vanguard did reveal some information. Sledgehammer's tease of the mode in the reveal makes it sound as though each match of Champion Hill will function as a small tournament between eight teams. The developers say to imagine fast action in close-quarter maps between small squads. The tease also says those squads will compete head-to-head to determine the champions, which should be pretty interesting. With other rumored modes like mini-battle royales reportedly coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard, the game could feature a very unique multiplayer experience.

Call of Duty: Vanguard's Campaign Follows Special Forces Like Modern Warfare

Another big draw of Call of Duty: Vanguard is its full singleplayer campaign that looks like it will offer explosive action across every front of World War 2. It has been confirmed that the campaign will follow four different protagonists to let players see as much of World War 2 as possible. Sledgehammer's description of the campaign also reveals that it will follow the first special forces unit in history.

This setup could lead to Call of Duty: Vanguard's campaign sharing some similarities with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's, which saw the player traveling the globe as modern special forces soldiers. Modern Warfare's campaign was largely well-received, especially for some of its more intense missions. If Call of Duty: Vanguard ends up taking a similar approach with its singleplayer campaign, there will likely be some content in it that Modern Warfare players will definitely enjoy in Call of Duty: Vanguard's very new take on World War 2.

The campaign will also offer a new shooter experience that players may not be able to get anywhere else this fall. Call of Duty: Vanguard's main competition, Battlefield 2042, has been confirmed to not include a singleplayer campaign, so Vanguard may be the only opportunity shooter fans get for a traditional singleplayer experience. The reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard gives players a brief look at what they can expect, and it looks like the campaign will offer all of the intense action and set pieces that Call of Duty fans have come to love and expect from the series.

Hopefully, it will be able to deliver a fantastic action story across World War 2 like it aims to, with some great elite soldier tactics and moments for players to enjoy. Sledgehammer and Activision have promised to give players more detailed looks at the game and its modes soon, so Modern Warfare fans should keep their eyes on the game when that information is shared.

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
