Starting with The Witcher back in 2007, CD Projekt RED’s fantasy RPG series has massively grown in popularity, now spanning three mainline titles and a Netflix adaptation. Based on a series of books by Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher games’ most recent title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has particularly amassed a loyal following of fans who adore the game for its rich characters and extensive world-building.

Games with strong characters and unique settings tend to grab the imaginations of the cosplay community and The Witcher is certainly no exception. Many fans and models have gone to great lengths to showcase their versions of the series’ popular characters like the titular witcher protagonist Geralt of Rivia, or red-haired sorceress Triss Merigold. Occasionally, dedicated members of The Witcher community will show off their adaptations of lesser-known characters as well.

Reddit user persephonecostumes has posted her rendition of Eskel to The Witcher Reddit community. Another witcher and close friend of Geralt that was featured in the first and third games, Eskel may not have achieved the main character’s renown but was a professional, capable witcher in his own right. With his red striped jacket, shining sword, and warm brown hair, Eskel has a distinctive look that persephonecostumes has accurately captured in her photo, despite the obvious gender difference.

The post has become a hit on Reddit, earning over eleven thousand upvotes and generating several hundred comments worth of discussion. Members are lovingly referring to this female version of Eskel as Eskella and praising the unique take on the character. The original poster persephonecostumes has tackled other The Witcher cosplays in the past as well, such as ruling duchess of Toussiant Anna Henrietta and popular sorceress and love interest to Geralt, Yennefer.

The Witcher universe continues to enchant fans with its grey morality, deep lore, and rich storytelling. With such a vast range of unique characters to choose from, the series will likely remain a favorite of the cosplay community for years to come. They can expect more material too, with a next-generation version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming this fall and the much anticipated second season of the Netflix adaptation set to release this coming December.

Of course, The Witcher isn’t the only series to be greatly celebrated by the cosplay community. Other properties such as Overwatch, Resident Evil, and Borderlands also have managed to captivate cosplayers who are interested in those series. Still, there is something about The Witcher’s well-written characters like Eskel that continue to attract many talented cosplayers.
