Fans believe another secret change was made to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, including big adjustments to the game’s movement system.

Like any other game in the series, mastering the movement system of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is crucial to finding success. However, it seems like the game's movement system is now different, as several professional players point out some unmentioned Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War changes.

This would hardly be the first secret update made to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as Treyarch has made some big unannounced changes in the past. This December, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s melee system was altered heavily, and a knife animation was added despite never being brought up in the patch notes. Another major, silent change was a noticeable nerf to XP earning rates, with this update still going unaddressed by Treyarch several weeks later.

While players have used tricks to speed up movement in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it seems like many of those moves will no longer work. According to pro player Decemate on Twitter, “They changed the whole movement system” of the game. While the streamer did not elaborate on what exactly changed, the comments section of the post is filled with players explaining what was altered — and it seems like bunny hoppers may want to change up their playstyles.

Call of Duty League competitor Austin Liddicoat, also known as SlasheR, asked what exactly changed, and fellow pro iLLeY said that “every time you jump you get stuck in mud.” Another Tweet from retired pro player Mochila confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s sliding has also been changed, making it so players need to have momentum from sprinting before the slide can get distance. While it is unclear why these changes were made, the decision likely comes due to the overuse of sliding and jumping by top tier players.

The change is shown off on video in a clip from Maux’s Twitch stream, with the Call of Duty fan highlighting the difference for his viewers. While playing on the remastered Express map, Maux attempts to bunny hop after landing, but is unable to jump a second time for a few seconds. Moving sluggishly and seemingly stuck in place, iLLeY’s description of “being stuck in mud” is an apt one, as that is exactly what the jump recovery process looks like.

While professional Call of Duty players will likely be bothered by this change to the game's movement, more casual Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War users may see it as a positive. Regardless, it seems like Black Ops Cold War's League Play and public matches could see a lot less jumping and sliding going forward.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
