Fans have been desperate to see an alternative color for the PlayStation 5 since its release as the standard white and black design has not been a hit with everyone, with some fans comparing the design to a WiFi router. One of these beautiful customizations was posted to the PlayStation subreddit by user jakobpinders. This owner’s design saw them change the existing PS5 faceplates from white to black. The black design is something fans have become accustomed to as the last three generations of the console have all been initially released with a similar all-black design.

Where this user's customization really stands out is with the modified central black strip as jakobpinders has added a custom abstract sticker across the entire central strip to completely rejuvenate the black design the PS5 currently has. Despite being so abstract, the design resembles the colors and patterns of an oil spill as the sticker reflects the colors of the rainbow.

Considering the faceplates are designed to come off and with the ever-growing number of customized PS5s, fans are beginning to wonder when Sony will release an official alternative colorway to the market. Despite no official word from Sony, the fact there are already red and black DualSense controllers on the market suggests we could see Sony release new PS5s in these colors to match their official controllers.

Although players would certainly enjoy the option of purchasing a PS5 in an alternative color to white, they will most likely be hard to get as the PS5 has been a notoriously hard console to purchase since its release. This has been due to a number of factors including the global chip shortage, so it is unlikely Sony will announce any color variants until the standard PS5 becomes more readily available.

A number of online retailers are selling custom PS5 faceplates for those desperate to get rid of the current white and black colors. Although not official, they will provide a facelift for users who want something a bit more unique and eye-catching to those who walk past. As there are no announced plans to sell alternative colors of the PS5, these online retailers are the only way to go for fans at this moment in time.
