As fans wait for the next installment in the Halo franchise, a reputable source discovers a leak for the possible release date of the game.

Gamers have waited a long time for more news regarding the release of Halo Infinite. While the next adventure from the Master Chief was supposed to launch alongside Xbox’s next-gen consoles the Series X and Series S, problems with the campaign forced 343 to postpone the release of the game by over a year. As the end of 2021 approaches and fans eagerly wait to play more Halo, a new listing for the game has leaked online suggesting its release date.

Spotted on the Microsoft Store recently, this listing for Halo Infinite sets the launch of the game’s campaign for December 8, 2021. While the company has already announced that some features such as co-op along with Halo’s robust map editor Forge will come later, this is a promising sign that at least part of the game is expected to release this year. If this is in fact the correct date for the campaign, this would confirm Xbox Boss Phil Spencer’s words on Halo Infinite when he said that the game was still expected to make its 2021 launch. This leak was reported by Senior Editor of the Verge Tom Warren and was originally found by Microsoft leaker Aggioramenti Lumia on Twitter.

This news comes after some fans finally received the chance to try the game out for themselves. Back in July, 343 had a tech demo for Halo Infinite that some gamers managed to check out by signing up to be a part of the Halo Insider program. While the demo only let players fight against bots, fans of the series still had a chance to try out the new weapons along with testing the game's firing range.

It’s worth noting that this supposed date for the launch of Halo Infinite is a Wednesday. This is a somewhat uncommon time for the game to come out. In addition, 343’s decision to launch Infinite this late in the year would prevent the game from being eligible for any Game of the Year Awards at the Game Awards 2021. Beyond these troubling points, this date is much later than another possible release around November 15. This date would have been the anniversary of the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

Another issue with this new release date pertains to Xbox’s Gamescom 2021 event. This event focusing on upcoming Xbox projects seemed like an opportune time to unveil the official release date. However, the event came and went with no mention of Halo Infinite’s launch. Unfortunately, this means fans will continue to be in the dark regarding Xbox's plans for the launch of the game. However, fans likely won’t have to wait for much longer to find out whether this leaked release date for Halo Infinite is in fact correct, as the end of the year is only a couple months away. And it's always possible the game will be at Gamescom Opening Night Live instead.

Halo Infinite is in development for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
