Though Control came out in 2019, it has been making waves in recent weeks. The game by Remedy Entertainment focuses on a secret government agency and its new director, Jesse Faden. As the player explores the world of Control, various tools and powers become available to use, and one of these is Jesse's main weapon: a gun that can transform into different models.
The underrated science fiction game takes place in a facility known as the Oldest House, which is a place that can change on a whim, so Jesse must constantly be ready to handle any threat. Part of this involves improving her service weapon so it can adapt to any situation. There are multiple forms available, including a shotgun, sub-machine gun, and a rocket launcher.

One downside to the weapons and abilities in Control is that players are unable to upgrade them until certain points of the story. The first form of the gun is Grip, a pistol that unlocks during the first story mission. The shotgun, Shatter, and the sub-machine gun, Spin, become available in the third main story quest. Pierce is the sniper rifle form that joins Jesse's collection in the fourth story assignment. The final unlock is the rocket launcher, Charge, which is in the sixth story mission.
However, simply unlocking the option to change the service weapon is not enough. From there, Jesse has to find one of the game's Control Points to craft the new weapon type. To do so, players will need source energy and varying kinds of materials. These resources can be found while traversing the Oldest House and defeating enemies, so make sure to pick up everything. It is important to be somewhat conservative with the supplies so Jesse can have enough to create the different weapon models. That said, it is not necessary to have them all to beat the game, so it can come down to preference.
Jesse can also upgrade the service weapon forms through attaching additional mods. These also require source energy and materials, which is why proper spending habits are key. Mods are found by beating enemies and completing side quests, but players should focus on Board Countermeasures and Bureau Alerts to acquire the rarest ones. Since upgrading needs resources, try to save up to implement the rare, and more useful, modifications. With Control: Ultimate Edition offering next-generation upgrades, now is the best time to experience its supernatural world.
Control is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
