Cobra Kai's fourth season is coming this December but Netflix is already backing the show as a good sensei would back their students.

While Netflix never ceases to gamble with new shows, the streaming service is more than happy to back up its proven winners and has done so again as Cobra Kai has just been renewed for a fifth season.

Back in early 2020, before its third season premiere, Cobra Kai producers were more than happy to move the show from YouTube over to Netflix’s open arms due to the latter being open to extending the series for a fourth season, something that was not on the table for YouTube. That turned out to be an incredibly shrewd signing for Netflix, as Cobra Kai's viewership quickly outshone its already impressive numbers, a trend that followed through once the third season dropped atop the streaming charts.

However, Netflix’s commitment to Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso’s karate mentorship will now see Cobra Kai live on for a fifth season, as it was just announced by the show's official Twitter handle. The news comes as a significant boost ahead of Cobra Kai's highly anticipated fourth season, which is coming to Netflix this December, although still lacking a precise date, placing it quite close to the New Year’s Day date where it found so much success in 2021.

The show’s season three ended with a bang as Johnny and Daniel joined forces to battle John Kreese's violent teachings after taking over the Cobra Kai dojo, thanks in no small part to his manipulation over Johnny’s son Robby. This all sets up the upcoming All Valley Karate Tournament that was teased a few weeks ago when the December premiere date was announced, which will be pitting the joined forces of Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai's defectors against Kreese's gang of enraged teenagers.

Of course, the biggest nostalgic draw for Cobra Kai’s fourth season is actually the confirmed appearance of Thomas Ian Griffith, who will reprise his role as Terry Silver, that old army buddy Kreese was calling to cash in a favor from. Regardless of what happens, Netflix executives must be pleased about the prospects for this fourth season with this kind of backing, meaning there’s still a lot of worthy story points and more fantastic Cobra Kai music to cut through.

December is clearly looking like a busy month for Netflix. Cobra Kai will probably follow the release of the long-awaited new season for The Witcher with both Geralt and Vesemir, the Spanish hit Money Heist, as well as the much-hyped original film Don’t Look Up starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

Cobra Kai seasons 1-3 are now available on Netflix.
