Fans have been waiting through delays for the upcoming Digimon Survive, but their patience may be rewarded sooner than expected.

Bandai Namco Entertainment's upcoming Digimon Survive is a game that has been hit with delay after delay. Originally announced in 2018, this game was originally slated to come out in 2019. However, as the years passed several different factors forced the game to miss its intended release dates. The latest news from Bandai Namco said that Digimon Survive is delayed to 2022. While Digimon fans might still languish the game being in a slow development cycle, the release of this game might be sooner than once thought.

A lot of the delays from Digimon Survive could have been due to the risks and rewards regarding this game. This was one of the most ambitious Digimon titles to date, thanks to its narrative scope. It includes multiple endings, with choices and consequences that could affect not only the Digimon's digivolution process, but also potentially kill major characters in the plot. This also includes the game being split up into multiple different aspects of gameplay, which includes battling, text adventure sequences, limited free time to explore and survive the world, and more.

While things like these could impact how much time is needed to fine-tune and explore each system, the date for Digimon Survive's release seems to be close. A rating for the game had recently appeared on the Australia Classification Board, with it being a "multiplatform" game. Usually ratings are given to games that will be coming out relatively soon, so while the game will still release in 2022, it could be possible that it will be within the first or second quarter of next year instead of later.

While this is a possibility, one major factor needs to be taken into consideration for its latest delay to 2022. Digimon Survive was still being developed when COVID-19 hit, which forced game studios to change up how to ensure their staff were safe. These complications no doubt slowed down Digimon Survive's development, so to see the game being rated is a bright spot for Digimon fans.

Through all the delays, stalling, and on-going pandemic, Digimon Survive might finally be in the hands of fans relatively soon. It might seem optimistic to pin the game's possible release date considering that it's not concrete and could be changed at any time, but fans are hoping that the ambitious Digimon Survive is worth the wait.

Digimon Survive will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One in 2022.
