Xbox Game Pass has a history of giving players interesting and coveted game titles to play – Game Pass even has several day-one games coming to it. But a very special award-winning title was added that is a little bit older, a video game was originally released all the way back in 1993, and it's called Myst.
Xbox Game Pass has a massive library of games, ranging from the just-released gold Psychonauts 2 all the way back to the original Quake, and many titles in between. Most of these are available for Xbox consoles, and PC, for a monthly fee. But now, an updated, revamped version of Myst by developers Cyan has dropped, giving Xbox Game Pass users access to a game that many older gamers will hail as an absolute classic.

The new, enhanced remake of Myst launched today and was immediately available for Xbox Game Pass. Originally announced back in September 2020, the new Myst is also available for Oculus, Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and the Microsoft store. It does not appear to be launching for any other consoles at the moment, but it may be available for the Switch or PlayStation at a later date.
Myst is the first game in a series of point-and-click adventures originally released for PC. The puzzle adventure locked the player on an eerie and mysterious island, forcing them to solve riddles. There are several games in the series, most with the same sort of creepy atmosphere and all with head-scratching puzzles. But developers Cyan recently remade the game from the ground up, adding brand new graphics, a VR mode, better puzzle randomization, and even what it calls "re-imagined interactions." And players can experience it again or first the first time with Xbox Game Pass.
This is a great piece of video game history becoming more accessible to the next generation. The Myst series is filled with titles that have won awards, including Game of the Year. It's one of the few open-world games without combat, and it is attributed as being one of the first games to draw "non-video gamers" in. Its puzzles are still hailed as some of the most difficult in video game history, and it is probably one of the most deserving older titles of such a beautiful facelift. Hopefully, this is just the beginning, as it would be great for the gaming community to see remakes of the other Myst titles as well.
Myst is available for PC and Xbox Game Pass.
