Overwatch players have posted several pieces of fan art over the years, with each image usually focusing on one of the iconic members of the game’s hero roster. However, one Overwatch fan is doing something a bit different.
There are few things that the Overwatch community loves to do more than show off great plays. Alongside some fan art and cosplay posts, memorable play of the game moments dominate the game’s subreddit - and for good reason. With the game’s play of the game system showing the best moment from each match, and said moment often swinging an entire game in one team’s favor, it is understandable that there is so much interest in these plays. As such, Redditor areillustrations is using them as a basis for a new art series.

Rather than using random play of the game moments from the community, or some of their own clips, areillustrations is drawing iconic moments from the Overwatch League. The first image in this new art series looks at a play made by the Florida Mayhem, with the artist showing off a combination between Orisa’s Halt and Hanzo’s Dragonstrike. The player links to the exact play in the comments, showing just how accurate their stylish art piece is to the moment it was inspired by.
Aside from having some great inspiration, the overall design is incredible. Taking place across several panels as opposed to being just one standard image, it looks like something straight out of an Overwatch comic book. The color choice is terrific too, as the heavy use of white for the background makes the characters and text stand out more. A nice touch sees a player name in the corner, while “Team Kill” is written at the bottom of the post. Hanzo’s actual ultimate use looks great from the angle used for his panel.
Since the success of this first post, areillustrations has returned with a second entry in the series. Titled “supports win games,” the image captures a moment where “Shu” from the LA Gladiators clutched a 3v1 situation as the Overwatch hero Baptiste. With the moment leading to a title win for the team, it is great to see it represented in this art piece. The top panel shows Baptiste’s eyes, while 3 panels in the middle show his adversaries getting ready for a fight. The last panel shows Baptiste with his window activated, with a stylish “light them up” written in the background. Shu’s name and health are visible above the player, once again capturing the in-game style.
With many more Overwatch League plays available to be drawn, and future OWL seasons sure to bring more great moments, this art series could continue far into the future. Even if it does not, though, these two pieces are worthy of some appreciation.
Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
