The Sound of Music star and Academy Award-winning performer Christopher Plummer passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 91.

Academy Award-winning legendary actor Christopher Plummer has sadly passed away at the age of 91, as reported by Deadline. His family confirms he passed peacefully in his home, with his wife Elaine Taylor by his side.

Plummer was in the acting business for over 70 years and made over 100 films. He's most well known for his role as Captain George Von Trapp in the classic 1965 musical The Sound of Music, opposite Julie Andrews. He wouldn't achieve the status of Academy Award winner until 2010 when he won for his role in Beginners, and he was nominated again in 2018 for All The Money In The World. Most recently, he starred in the highly critically acclaimed 2019 film Knives Out.

He was born on December 13, 1959, in Toronto and was raised in Quebec, and was the great-grandson of Canadian Prime Minister John Abbott. His first acting role was a CBC production of Othello in 1953 and he made his Broadway debut the same year. He received his first Tony nomination in 1955 and made his film debut in 1958 when Sidney Lumet cast him in Stage Struck. In total, Plummer won two Tony Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and one Golden Globe on top of his Oscar. He was even nominated for a Grammy in 1986. To this day, he is the oldest Oscar winner as well as the oldest to receive an Oscar nomination. He is also the only Canadian to ever receive the Triple Crown of Acting.

Plummer's longtime friend and manager, Lou Pitt, released a statement following his passing. It reads, "Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self-deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us."

Throughout his seven decades-long performing career, Christopher Plummer cemented himself as a true acting legend. He was the epitome of classic Old Hollywood glamor and a master of his craft. His miles-long resume and list of accolades is a true testament to his talent, and his presence in the film industry will surely be missed.

Knives Out is now available on Amazon Prime Video.
