Fortnite is preparing for its next major event as Chapter 2 Season 7 is set to end with Operation: Sky Fire in a week. Missions in Fortnite have hinted that Season 7 will end with a larger-than-life event that should bring to a conclusion the arc involving the aliens' invading Mothership. Players are already predicting the Mothership crashing to the ground, changing Fortnite's landscape forever. But if a new leak is to be believed, a crashing Mothership may only just be scratching the surface of Epic Games' plans.
Fortnite dataminer and leaker InTheShadeYT shared a curious discovery recently. In one tweet, they say, "We're getting a Black Hole/Something like in Season 14 after the Event" and then link a Fortnite folder with unclear content. A second Twitter post says that "There will be a special loading screen after the black hole has appeared." This post links to two Fortnite assets that reference "black" in their filenames. Outside of these filenames, Fortnite players are stuck trusting InTheShadeYT's reporting.

The black hole, for those unfamiliar, is perhaps the most significant event in Fortnite's history. It's the event that ended Chapter 1 of Fortnite and gave birth to Chapter 2. Fortnite players will recall that the black hole event actually shut down Fortnite for over 37 hours, leading to an odd loading screen that gradually changed as Epic prepared to launch its new map.
How the black hole ties into the current Fortnite storyline or the conclusion of Chapter 2 Season 7 isn't clear. It's especially difficult to speculate given that InTheShadeYT's leak doesn't provide any specific detail about the nature of the new black hole. At best, the entire idea that the black hole could return soon has to be considered a rumor.
However, if the rumor is coming back, it wouldn't be a far stretch to think that it could be tied to the alien Mothership that's likely to crash or explode at the end of Chapter 2 Season 7. Within the Mothership is a lot of odd technology that could explode. It's hard to imagine it creating an explosion as large as the Zero Point did at the end of Chapter 1, though.
Like with Chapter 1, Fortnite players may simply be seeing the first step as the battle royale moves toward the end of Chapter 2. Perhaps the black hole is still some seasons away. Regardless of what's coming, however, it seems that Fortnite's upcoming events are going to be all the more exciting than expected.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
