After THQ Nordic revived and re-released the ambitious RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, fans have been awaiting any news regarding the one piece of brand new DLC that would be available. The DLC, titled Fatesworn, was announced around the same time as the actual re-release over a year ago. It is said to be entirely new and developed in-house at THQ Nordic, as opposed to using remnants from the original developers of the now-defunct 38 Studios. Furthermore, it is reported to be a continuation of the main story, unlike the two DLCs from the original release.
While precious few details have emerged in the year since Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning was released, now that the Switch port has come out, it seems like THQ Nordic is focusing its efforts on finishing this content. The recent information comes from THQ's Twitter account and recent posts on the game's steam page. The presence of any news and confirmation that players who bought the aptly titled Fatesworn Edition didn't waste their money is certainly good. However, what THQ Nordic revealed still leaves a lot to be desired, but there are still some details to be gleaned from these posts.

Known Details About Fatesworn
Despite two recent social media posts and announcements concerning the Fatesworn DLC, there is still very little actually confirmed, especially when it comes to plot. The story will be a continuation of the main game's story and somewhat serves as an epilogue in that regard. The plot, as a result, deals with the player's resurrection from the Well of Souls and the aftermath that such a fate-defying event has caused to the Weave. Fan-favorite Agarth the Fateweaver will be returning likely to help the player resolve this issue and prevent the entire world's fate from being unraveled.
The Fatesworn DLC for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning was initially said to add at least five hours of additional content, whether this figure has increased since development began is unknown. The game was recently released for Nintendo Switch so the entire team has been working on this DLC for some time, so the release is probably soon. However, given that the team is quite small, it still seems likely that Fatesworn will be on the shorter side in terms of length. The recent preview posts interestingly focus on a small, past-its-prime settlement nestled within the Eldrith Mountains. The settlement, known as Gale Crossing, appears pretty dilapidated by comparison to many of the other towns within the game and could be where the player meets Agarth.

Fatesworn Speculation
Fatesworn will not be the first piece of DLC that Kingdoms of Amalur has received, but it will be the first to be developed by THQ Nordic. This could indicate an interest in the IP and possible further explorations of it in the future. The world of Amalur seems to brim with stories to tell. After the events of the main story, in which the player defeats the evil Tirnoch and Gadflow, their return as antagonists can safely be ruled out for Fatesworn. THQ Nordic is likely eager to prove that it is capable of telling a unique, self-contained story within the Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning universe. New weapons and armor have been leaked through the extraction of recent patch files, which to be fair are usually a given for RPG DLCs. Fatesworn could see unique status effects, Twists of Fate, and passive abilities if not entirely new additions to the already expansive skill system as well.
The focus on Gale's Crossing as promotional material for Fatesworn is interesting and somewhat surprising. THQ Nordic explicitly mentions that this settlement used to be a thriving and important place, so it could be possible that the player will be able to renovate and bring Gale's Crossing back to its former glory. This would bring an entirely new gameplay mechanic to Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Once upgraded, Gale's Crossing could provide radiant quests for players to complete for unique rewards thereby giving players unique replayable endgame content. A New Game Plus mode could also be possible with the release of Fatesworn. This mode might even be woven directly into the narrative and see the player wake up on the pile of corpses they did at the beginning upon beating the DLC. There are sure to be more details revealed over the coming days and weeks leading up to Fatesworn's release.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. The Fatesworn expansion is set for release in 2021.
