The mech-piloting video game MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries developed by Piranha Games will soon be arriving on PlayStation consoles. When it does, the game will also be launching with the Heroes of the Inner Sphere expansion, and players will be able to experience the game's full campaign.

PlayStation fans of MechWarrior won't have to wait long for the game to arrive, it will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this September 23. The PS5 version will also support the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers and advanced haptics. This launch of the game will signify the return of the BattleTech franchise back to PlayStation after 20 years, since MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat was released back in 1995.

On top of that, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will have cross-play support across all major launch platforms, including Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and the Xbox Series X/S. The game will have new and enhanced features for the game made from over a year's worth of development. One of the notable changes made to the game is that players can switch between any AI Lance BattleMechs with full control during a mission.

When the game arrives, players in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be able to enjoy the mech combat and campaign in its entirety. Players will be able to engage in futuristic battlefields as elite mercenaries with towering BattleMechs. In the main campaign, players can experience a story that takes them on an interstellar quest that lets them become an incredible mech-piloting mercenary commander.

The story will continue in the Heroes of the Inner Sphere expansion, where players can follow their selected career path in the Career Mode. The expansion will provide new warzones, quests, and missions for players to complete. They will be able to find new mech chassis to use along with new weapons, equipment, and blueprints for players to use to customize their mechs even further.

Players can also enjoy Heroes of the Inner Sphere together by joining a match hosted by any owner of the expansion, regardless of the platform they use. For this launch, the developers at Piranha Games spent considerable time addressing issues based on player feedback, mainly by providing quality of life gameplay improvements and various updates that will be included in the game's launch for all PlayStation players.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will have other new features along with cross-play support. There will be a new story introduction for the campaign with an optional tutorial for players to use. The game will have an improved user interface HUD, and will come with modding updates to MechWarrior 5. There will also be improvements to balancing, more extreme weather visual effects, enhanced AI, and more.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is available for the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and launches for the PS4 and PS5 on September 23, 2021.
