The new Rivals mode in Ghost of Tsushima Legends has players collecting Magatama to curse their rivals and win the round.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is primarily a cooperative experience, but the newest update adds a competitive mode called Rivals. Players still won't be clashing blades with one another in this game mode, but they will work against one another in order to come out victorious. Key to doing this is the use of Magatama, a mystical resource that allows players to hinder their opponents in unique ways. In other modes of the game, players can use Magatama to get divine blessings, but this time around they will instead place divine curses on their rivals.

Magatama doesn't only allow players to harass the other players, it is also the only way to get to the Final Stand and win a game of Rivals in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. For this reason, it's important to collect as much as possible, but players will need to know how to do that first.

Magatama works very differently in Rivals mode than it does in Survival. In the latter, players are used to earning large chunks of Magatama for completing waves or survival objectives, but in Rivals players will get far fewer over the course of the game. What's more, these Magatama aren't automatically rewarded to the player, but they instead must be picked up by walking over them. Finally, they also are not shared among players, meaning whoever picks up the Magatama first will get it.

How to Get Magatama in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Raid Mode

The first way is to simply kill enemies. Depending on the type of enemy, players will get around one to five Magatama for defeating them. Again, this reward will simply float above the ground where the enemy was killed, and either player on the team can collect it. Another way to get Magatama is to open the Oni Treasure. This rewards a huge amount of Magatama and also gives a piece of loot at the end of the match so it is highly recommended to do this. Both players on the team will also passively get some Magatama whenever the enemy team dies and has to respawn.

Finally, there will be some Magatama spawned onto the map before anything is killed, so it's worth running through the areas to collect these. Remember that the primary focus of Rivals mode in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is to attain and spend Magatama, and keep that in mind when spending it. Shades block a team from being able to spend Magatama, making them a great option.

Ghost of Tsushima is available now on PS4 and PS5.
