Fallout 76's legendary crafting system is improving with every update. Here's what players need to know about crafting these weapons and armor.

Legendary crafting has been available in Fallout 76 for a little while now. It was first introduced during the Nuclear Winter update, but most players felt wasn't good to start, since they could only craft two armor sets. Legendary crafting was upgraded during the Wastelanders update, but it only expanded the number of items players were capable of crafting.

Now that the Steel Reign update is out, legendary crafting has been expanded once more. Now, players can make any weapon or armor piece a legendary item. As of September 2021, players can craft up to level 3 legendary items, and Bethesda has announced that level 4 legendary items will be coming this winter. Here's what players need to know about legendary crafting right now.

Why To Craft Legendary Items & How They Work

Legendary items are important for any survivor in the wastelands. Players familiar with the game know that legendary items offer perks to make them more powerful than they would be otherwise.

Legendary items (for now) can be one to three stars. The more stars a legendary item has, the more legendary perks it has. Naturally, three-star legendary items are the most useful, as they have three legendary perks for players to benefit from.

How To Get Legendary Cores

Legendary Cores are one of the key items needed to craft legendary items. They're relativey easy to come by, as long as players know where to look. For starters, public events are one of the ways players will be able to collect the most amount of Legendary Cores.

These public events appear on the map with exclamation points, and can give players up to eight cores. Daily Ops missions and seasonal events are other avenues for players to get these items as well.

How To Get Legendary Modules

Legendary Modules are the other item that players need to get in order to craft their own legendary gear. The only way to get Legendary Modules in Fallout 76 is to visit Purveyor Murmrgh, who is located down in the southern section of the map known as the Ash Heap. The exact location of this vendor is called the Rusty Pick.

Each one of these Modules comes at a cost of 50 scrip. Remember, scrip can be obtained by selling legendary items at one of the legendary vending machines.

How To Craft Legendary Items

Crafting legendary gear is just like crafting normal items — more or less. Players simply need to go to either a weapons bench or armor bench to begin the process. They can then choose to craft a new weapon or armor piece if they so choose, but if they already have a weapon or armor piece on them, then they can just go straight to modding.

Players need to act like they are modding an item, select the item to mod, and then select legendary upgrade. Depending on whether they have the required materials, the player will be able to craft one to three-star legendary items.
