With the introduction of Super Bomberman R Online's second season, a new Castlevania character is being added to its playable roster.

Super Bomberman R was released back in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch; Konami has been doing a lot of work to continue supporting this game after many years of neglecting the IP. This title has been a return to form for many and delivers a fresh take on the classic Bomberman gameplay, with continued multiplayer support under Super Bomberman R Online. This battle royale game has recently begun its second season, bringing a new playable Bomberman based on a character from Konami's Castlevania franchise.

In Super Bomberman R Online, players have the option of choosing between different playable characters. Some are different colored Bomberman, with others being crossover guest characters. This includes Solid Snake and Naked Snake appearing in Super Bomberman R, complete with a redesign that fits the universe. Other Castlevania characters that have made it into the game include Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, and Alucard. The introduction of this game's second season brings in another Castlevania character from one of the franchise's GBA installments, Soma Cruz.

Soma Cruz first appeared in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and has been a popular character among the fanbase since. His appearance in Super Bomberman R is heavily based on that, with his special abilities revolving around his "Power of Dominance." In Aria of Sorrow, this gave him various special abilities of the monsters that he killed by absorbing their souls. His playable appearance in this game looks to retain that, with him being able to temporarily copy an opponent's special ability whenever they come into contact with one of his bats.

Soma Cruz, much like the other guest characters of Super Bomberman R, is available to purchase through the in-game shop through the use of Bomber Coins. Other cosmetics are also available as rewards as players better their rank in the game. These include coffins and outfits based on Castlevania, with even one of the taunts mimicking Dracula's iconic wine glass pose.

With Soma Cruz appearing in this game, it might interest some fans about his origin game, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. The game is only available on the Game Boy Advance, so tracking down a copy might be difficult. With the rumored remasters of the Castlevania GBA Trilogy, there might be a chance that fans could experience what makes Soma Cruz a mainstay of the Castlevania franchise.

Super Bomberman R Online is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
