Controversial YouTuber and Influencer Jake Paul and his brother have a very public history with professional boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The brother Influencer-duo-turned-boxers Jake and Logan Paul are used to finding themselves in controversial positions. In 2017, Jake was removed from the Disney channel show Bizaardvark following complaints by his neighbor. However, Jake and Logan have seemingly harnessed this "bad boy" reputation for their own gain. That same year, Logan's infamous Japanese suicide forest video would go live. Even so, each brother has a massive audience of around twenty million subscribers on YouTube, and over the past couple of years the pair have turned their attention to boxing against other YouTubers like KSI, among others

Controversy is still following the pair throughout their exploration of the sport. There has been an FBI raid on their home, sexual assault allegations, and the public health issue of not taking COVID-19 seriously by hosting a house party; all not great given the brothers' audience is on the younger side. Most recently, Jake has gotten into a feud with five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., whom his brother fought with no official winner in June 2021.

Jake Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The catalyst for the feud between the boxers seemingly happened during a press conference ahead of the lucrative Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul fight. Videos of the event show Jake and Mayweather face-to-face surrounded by the press having a heated discussion. What exactly they were talking about is unclear, but pre-fight trash talk seems the most likely culprit. It's also possible that Paul was proposing a fight with Mayweather after his brother. During their exchange, Jake grabs Mayweather's hat and runs through the press. Mayweather chases after him and things get physical before guards intervene.

After this, Jake Paul claims that Mayweather wanted to "do something" as a result of the incident. Paul has shown a love for being in the spotlight, so he allows people to believe that Mayweather wanted him dead. The reality is that Mayweather likely just wanted to set up a televised fight with Jake as revenge for stealing his hat. The Paul brothers have come to be known for being involved with shocking moments, seemingly just to get people talking about them at times. However, Mayweather has also not denied Jake's claims about attempting to take the influencer's life, which could lend some credence to his side of the story.

What's Next for Jake Paul and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Since the altercation, there have been no plans for a fight between Jake and Mayweather. Mayweather did say that he would fight Jake if the younger brother were to go down to the "very slim lightweight" classification, which is around 150 pounds. At 6'1" it seems unlikely that he would reach that figure, and in response said the fight can happen but only at a reasonable weight. Jake has seemingly moved on after posting a 'hit-list' on his Instagram. Notably, Mayweather was absent from that list, but his brother Logan was on it.

Whether or not the two are actually able to resolve this conflict is unclear for now. Be it inside or outside the ring, there is clearly something between the fighters that needs to be settled. If Jake's accusations are true, those death threats would be a shocking reaction from Mayweather for something as silly as getting his hat taken. Logan has also been noticeably silent about the conflict between his brother and his latest competitor. Even if the two never encounter each other again, which may be for the best, it seems as if Jake is looking toward future fights, and is taking his potential career as a boxer seriously.
