Playing shooting guard can be a dream come true in NBA 2K22. It's the go-to position for scoring. With the newest shot meter, better badges, and improved animations, three-point shooting is officially back in style. Taking it inside for some flashy dunks is also a valid strategy. And, of course, the position has a significant advantage in generating steals.

However, the dream can turn into a nightmare for shooting guards who find themselves on the wrong team. Some teams don't have the talent around them to give the shooting guard a chance to succeed. To avoid getting stuck in a bad situation, these are the best teams to play a shooting guard with in NBA 2K22.
What To Look For
The ideal team for a MyCareer player is one where the team has a need at the player's position but the rest of the team is solid. If the shooting guard on a given team is too high, the player will spend their entire career on the bench. If too many other positions are weak, teams can move shooting guards into other positions, like point guard and small forward, where they have distinct disadvantages.
Shooting guards need players around them who can pass the ball. Eventually, opponents will double coverage against the shooting guard and then the team needs to be able to receive a pass and score.
New York Knicks
PG | Kemba Walker | 83 |
SG | Evan Fournier | 79 |
SF | R.J. Barrett | 83 |
PF | Julius Randle | 86 |
C | Mitchell Robinson | 80 |
Player preference is much more important than best team fit, but if the only consideration is team fit, then the New York Knicks are, by far and away, the best team to play with as a shooting guard. Evan Fournier is a 79 and will be easy to overtake. Aside from Mitchell Robinson, who is still decent, the rest of the team is 83 or better. This lineup will be complete, from top to bottom, if the MyPlayer wants to bring back the first championship to new York basketball since 1973.
Milwaukee Bucks
PG | Jrue Holiday | 85 |
SG | Donte DiVincenzo | 79 |
SF | Khris Middleton | 88 |
PF | Giannis Antetokounmpo | 96 |
C | Brook Lopez | 79 |
Donte DiVincenzo will be easy to overtake with his 79 OVR. Brook Lopez, the center, is a bit of a liability at 79, but his interior defense is graded at an A+, so at least he won't be giving up points left and right. The rest of the team speaks for itself. Fresh off a big championship series win, they are ready to go at a second title. Even playing slightly above average will give this core group of players every chance to win.
New Orleans Pelicans
PG | Devonte Graham | 78 |
SG | Nickeil Alexander-Walker | 75 |
SF | Brandon Ingram | 84 |
PF | Zion Williamson | 89 |
C | Jonas Valanciunas | 83 |

New Orleans is a great destination for those who want to play immediately. The shooting guard is tied for the lowest OVR in the league among starting shooting guards. The point guard, Devonte Graham, is a bit of a liability with a 78 OVR, but he grades at an A- in passing, so don't be shy calling for passes.
Los Angeles Lakers
PG | Russell Westbrook | 86 |
SG | Malik Monk | 76 |
SF | LeBron James | 96 |
PF | Anthony David | 93 |
C | Dwight Howard | 78 |
Shooting guard Malik Monk is a 76 and will basically be replaced the instant MyPlayer shows up in town to replace him. Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis have resumes that speak for themselves, and each one is capable of doing anything they need to do to win. The sore thumb is Dwight Howard at 78, but with an A+ rebounding and an A- for interior defense, he shouldn't hinder the team's chance to win another championship.
Denver Nuggets
PG | Jamal Murray | 85 |
SG | Will Barton | 77 |
SF | Michael Porter Jr | 84 |
PF | Aaron Gordon | 78 |
C | Nikola Jokic | 95 |
Playing with last year's MVP, Nikola Jokic, is an honor as a shooting guard because of his uncanny ability to pass from underneath the rim. Replacing Will Barton and his 77 OVR can be done within a few games. Aaron Gordon is a notable weak spot at the power forward position with his 78 OVR, but he's still an A+ scorer inside, so he can usually pay for his defensive mistakes when he plays offense.
