Fans of the beloved animated series Bob's Burgers can rejoice because the long-awaited movie has a new, and appropriate, release date. Disney announced the news along with a new poster for the film on Twitter with the caption "Let's get this PATTY started!" The new film, written and directed by series creator Loren Bouchard, will be released in theatres by 20th Century Fox on Memorial Day Weekend 2022.
The new movie will be based on the long-running animated series of the same name that follows the exploits of the Belcher family who own and operate a burger joint in small-town New Jersey. The popular series has run for 11 seasons on Fox and has been renewed for a 12th and 13th season, with the 12th season due to premiere on September 26th, 2021. The movie will see the main voice cast reprise their roles as the Belcher family, including H. Jon Benjamin as the sensible family patriarch Bob, John Roberts as his fun-loving wife Linda, Dan Mintz as their oldest teenage daughter Tina, Eugene Mirman as musical middle child Eugene, and Kristen Schaal as the mischievous youngest child Lousie. This will be Bouchard's feature directorial debut. His other TV credits include the Apple TV animated musical series, Central Park which revolves around the lives of several characters who live and work around the titular New York City park.

Over its 11 seasons, Bob's Burgers has garnered many awards and nominations, including several Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Series. 20th Century Fox first announced a film adaption back in 2017 with the expectation of a July 2020 release date. However, as with many films and TV shows affected by the pandemic, the release date has been pushed back several times. Disney first announced that the film's release would be moved to April 2021, before it was completely removed from the upcoming release schedule in January of this year.
The movie has now been rescheduled once again to its current 2022 release date. While plot details are limited at the moment, Bouchard has confirmed that the film will be a musical comedy similar to the TV series and it's speculated that audiences will get to see how the character Lousie got her signature pink bunny ears. Bouchard has also previously stated that the movie will reunite Louise with her beloved nightlight Kuchi Kopi inside her fantasy world.
Despite the delays and complications, Disney and Bouchard seem to be committed to a theatrical run for The Bob's Burgers Movie. The pandemic has been extremely challenging for theatrical movie releases, with many films premiering either simultaneously or exclusively at home on streaming services such as Disney + and HBO Max.
In a previous interview with EW, Bouchard stated "We decided we really want the movie to come out in theaters because Bob’s is already on TV. Of course, we want everyone to be able to safely see it in movie theaters. We don’t want anyone to put themselves at risk. But assuming there’s a point at which everyone can go back to theaters safely, we’re excited about Bob's the movie being seen in the theater, in the dark with other people, because that’s something we’ve never been able to do before. That’s the main course that we’re delivering to people, in this case."
The Bob's Burgers Movie will premiere in theatres on May 27th, 2022.
