There are a stunning variety of Pokemon collectibles available for decorative and useful purposes, and kitchenware is no exception. While many of these creations are often based on recently popular Pokemon, an upcoming release of Pokemon salt and pepper shakers is based upon something that's been around since the very beginning, even if it isn't in anyone's Pokedex.
Since Pokemon Red and Blue premiered on the Nintendo GameBoy, there's been a unique, recurring Pokemon decoration that's never been identified as a particular pocket monster. Pokemon Gyms are usually decorated with statues of Pokemon, and that particular creation is now replicated in a set of Pokemon salt and pepper shakers.

The salt and pepper shakers replicate the appearance of these mysterious Pokemon Gym statues perfectly. The unknown creature sits atop of its base, which can be separated. The base is what actually holds the seasonings, with the unknown Pokemon sealing off the entrance when it's put back in place. The set is 100mm in height with the Pokemon seated on its platform.
The set is currently available for pre-order through Premium Bandai, with the pre-order window closing on October 4. Pre-ordered sets are estimated to be shipped out in February of 2022. The set costs 4,620 yen, or about $41.98 USD at the time of this writing. It's likely pricier than most would want to spend on a simple pair of salt and pepper shakers, but the novelty of items of these often win over fans who have become somewhat accustomed to expensive Pokemon products.
While some might have expected a Pokemon salt and pepper shaker to focus on specific series favorites, or even starter Pokemon, these recreations are a familiar part of Pokemon history for anyone who's played through the games. They're also a bit more subtle a nod to the series for those who are looking for understated Pokemon merchandise. They'd likely be a great item for anyone who's already picked up the Original Stitch Pokemon aprons that were announced earlier this year.
Interestingly enough, while Pokemon gyms all have their own specialties and fighters, this particular Pokemon statue has typically stood in place of any of the hundreds of Pokemon now available across the series. When it appeared in the first games, it was essentially a generic sprite that allowed the developers to avoid having to animate a sprite for every single Pokemon around. However, while the games have progressed technologically, this icon has remained, and has left enough of an impression to lead to this unique Pokemon item.
