After the great success of The Suicide Squad earlier this year, director James Gunn is now moving on to his next project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While fans are patiently waiting for their favorite characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Mantis, to return, Gunn has just teased a possible cameo from a few familiar faces in the third installment of the franchise.
After fans fell in love with Task Force X from DC’s The Suicide Squad, Gunn is now suggesting that some of the team’s members could potentially be making an appearance in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This news, or rather hint from Gunn, has been getting a lot of traction as fans express their excitement over a possible DC and Marvel crossover.

Gunn, who is known to be very active on social media, answered a few fan questions on Twitter over the weekend. When a fan asked him if he would invite any of The Suicide Squad actors to join the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn cheekily responded, “That is a distinct possibility.” This doesn’t necessarily mean that the actors will be reprising their The Suicide Squad characters in the film, though.
Work is finally beginning on the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, four years after the previous installment in the franchise was released. Fans have been patiently waiting for Gunn to finish work on his DC projects, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, so that he can turn his focus back to the Marvel project. Now, his latest tease has them wondering what role could the actors from the hit DC film could possibly play in the next Guardians film.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this month, Gunn even hinted at the characters of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 going down the same path as those of Task Force X in The Suicide Squad. Those who have seen the movie will know that many of the anti-heroes do not make it out alive, including the shocking death of Rick Flag.
If the same path were to be followed, does this mean that one of the main Guardians characters could also meet their death in the next installment? Only time will tell, and it is going to be a long wait.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
