Overwatch 2 is making some drastic changes to how the hero-shooter plays, namely shaking up team compositions so there are five players per team with two DPS, two Support, and one Tank. This has forced Blizzard to rebalance many of the characters on the roster, though specifics on many of these changes remain scarce at this time. However, Blizzard community manager AndyB recently took to the forums to reveal more about Overwatch 2 character changes, particularly changes coming to Brigitte and Support class heroes.
According to AndyB, Support heroes will still function largely the same in Overwatch 2, though there will be some rebalancing necessary as a result of the new team composition. When it comes to Support hero Brigitte, AndyB has said that she will no longer be able to stun enemies, with more information on the Brigitte rework coming at a later date. This one change will be a huge change for Brigitte players as it will potentially make her far less of a threat on the battlefield.

The Overwatch 2 Support role in general is getting changed. While most of the Support heroes will still play mostly the same as they do in the current iteration of Overwatch, they will all have less healing output in Overwatch 2. According to AndyB, this was due to there being less damage output with only five characters on the field instead of six, and so healers have proven to be far too effective with the new team comp. The hope is that by lowering healing output in Overwatch 2 that fights don't "feel drawn out or frustrating."
It seems all three of the Overwatch roles are getting changed in the sequel. Overwatch 2 Tank heroes may be getting the most drastic reworks, though, as they will now have to be far more versatile. An Overwatch 2 Reinhardt rework has already been discussed that would potentially allow him to cancel his charge and shoot off two Firestrike attacks at once, though it's still unclear how Blizzard plans on changing most of the other Tank heroes on the roster.
DPS in Overwatch 2 will also be getting changes in some cases. Blizzard has found that heroes that are more mobile and used as flankers can be overpowered with the new 5-person team composition, and so potential nerfs are in the works for characters like Doomfist and Tracer. Even Tank hero Wrecking Ball has been pointed out as a hero that may need rebalanced due to the new team composition.
Overwatch 2 dropping to five players on a team is going to result in a game that's massively different from the original. It's a gamble for sure, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Overwatch 2 is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
