The PS4 may be eight years old, but still has a huge lineup of games to look forward to for the rest of 2021, as well as next year in 2022.

Sony has ushered in a new generation of gaming with it's PlayStation 5 console, which hit shelves last November. With a heatlhy lineup of games like Demon's Souls and Returnal, the latest in the long running PlayStation line of systems is off to a great start, with the promise of better things on the horizon. As with past console cycles, Sony has maintained a promise to continue to support its prior console, the PlayStation 4, for at least the next few years.

Despite entering its eighth holiday season, the PS4 still has a solid amount of games for owners to choose from in the forseeable future. With the PS5 experiencing stock shortages, many gamers will be hanging onto their older consoles, hoping not to be left out from many of the newer games soon to be released. From the major third party franchises, to first-party blockbuster hits, the PS4 will still be able to keep its user base happily entertained in the years to come.

Biggest PS4 Games for Holiday 2021

Heading into the holiday season, players will be getting ready for the usual gift exchanges or treating themselves to games. Based on the list of PS4 games available in the remaining months of the year, there is no shortage of potential titles for players of all interests to enjoy. Next week, Kena: Bridge of Spirits will land on the PS4 after a brief delay from last month. The game's visuals are dazzling, and looks to feature solid platforming action as well. For players who prefer something a little spookier, Alan Wake Remastered is available on October 5, kicking off the Halloween season.

October as a whole is a fairly packed month for major PS4 games releasing, with Far Cry 6 hitting consoles on October 7. The latest in Ubisoft's insane first person shooter series looks promising from its many trailers, and is adding tons of new features to the Far Cry franchise. Throughout the rest of the month are more options for fans of first-person shooters, with the likes of Back 4 Blood on October 12, and then Battlefield 2042 on October 22. Capping off the month will be a fun treat for fans of superhero games, as Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy releases on October 26, aiming to be the zany cosmic adventure the Marvel fanbase will be expecting.

Closing out the year, on November 7, Call of Duty: Vanguard will launch on most major platforms, including the PS4. The Call of Duty series has had a yearly release for well over a decade, and for fans who can't get enough, this new installment looks to have another promising single player campaign and addictive multiplayer component.

Biggest PS4 Games Releasing in 2022

Not looking to be outshined by the newer consoles on the market, the PS4 kicks things off with a bang in 2022 when Elden Ring releases on January 21. The highly anticipated RPG by FromSoftware is sure to be one of the biggest games of the year, and PS4 owners won't be left out of the hype once it becomes available.

February then has a triple threat of big games packed in at the end of the month. Indie martial arts title Sifu is first up on February 22, followed by the Saints Row reboot just a few days later, on February 25. Ending the month with a bang is Horizon: Forbidden West on February 28. Although footage shown off so for has been of the PS5 version of Horizon: Forbidden West, if the PS4 release looks anywhere near as good as the first game did, then gamers are still in for a treat.

With no sign of slowing down throughout the year, the PS4 will still have plenty of games to play throughout 2022. The following games have no confirmed release dates as of the writing of this article, but are all aiming to be available at some point before the end of the year.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a zany entry in the Borderlands franchise, sure to satisfy players with an itchy trigger finger. A Plague Tale: Requiem and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be available to satisfy players both looking for something more serious, as well as carefree and whimsical. The long awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, is also scheduled to be available sometime next year as well. That's without mentioning other titles like Gotham Knights, Dying Light 2, Hogwarts Legacy or The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

Sony, not wanting its loyal fans to miss out on the major firsty party exclusives on tap, have confirmed that some of the biggest PS5 games coming out will also have a cross-gen release on the PS4. While clearly not as powerful as its successor, the PS4 is no slouch in terms of pushing beautiful graphics, something which both Gran Turismo 7 and God of War: Ragnarok are sure to put to the test, when they land on the PS4 sometime next year.
