The Mysterious Pair is a sub-quest in Tales of Arise that centers around locating a "legendary instrument" that was hidden by a certain Wonder Bard. However, the precise position of the instrument is not revealed by the NPC, and fans will need to solve a series of riddles, which take the form of Wonder Texts, in order to find it. Alternatively, players can simply read this guide, as it contains full details on how to complete Tales of Arise’s The Mysterious Pair quest.
Tales of Arise: Where to Find the Instrument in The Mysterious Pair
To get right to it, Tales of Arise players that are trying to retrieve the instrument for The Mysterious Pair should begin by traveling to Calaglia - Iglia Wastes. Upon arrival at this location, fans should navigate to its northernmost point, a small area that is encircled by cliffs. For full clarity, this spot has been marked on the map that is below, and it should make finding the relevant location very easy.

Once a player arrives at this area, they should look for some sparkles on the ground near the cliffs. Fans should approach these sparkles and “Examine” them in order to retrieve an Iron Pipe. While this item may not be quite what players were expecting, it is the “legendary instrument” that is needed for this sub-quest in Tales of Arise, and it can be taken to the Wonder Bard to complete The Mysterious Pair. Just as a reminder, that NPC can be found in Mahag Saar - Niez.
To note, the Wonder Bard will not take the Iron Pipe at the conclusion of this sub-quest, instead allowing Alphen to keep it in his possession. This is very fortunate, as the item is used to craft the best weapon for Alphen in Tales of Arise: the Realm Unifier. The blueprint for this weapon is granted during the game’s main quest, and players should thus not be too concerned if they do not have it by the time that they earn the Iron Pipe.
The Iron Pipe is certainly not the only item that players that want to craft the Realm Unifier will need, though. Indeed, forging the weapon also requires four Ominous Eyeballs, two Cursed Claws, and five Blistering Fangs, and those items can be farmed in Tarfhal Helgarahi and the Otherworld. While it is not requisite that fans spend time getting all of these Tales of Arise crafting materials together, having access to the Realm Unifier should make it much easier to beat the game.
Tales of Arise is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
