Toby Fox's latest Steam demo of Deltarune surpasses the player count of his previous title, Undertale, by a wide margin.

After a nearly three year gap since the first chapter was released, Deltarune's newest demo was dropped, containing the second chapter. Both of these chapters are available to play for free as a single demo on PC through itch.io or the Steam client. Being an alternate universe and successor to Toby Fox's previous game, Undertale, Deltarune has been a massive hit and lauded by many fans – so much so that the peak record of Deltarune's concurrent players has surpassed Undertale's peak.

Deltarune's second chapter continues the adventures of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, exploring a new Dark World known as "Cyber World," ruled by a mysterious and hilarious new nemesis named "Queen." Battle mechanics of the game are expanded upon and the story and humor feels much like its predecessor, Undertale. This comes complete with witty dialogue, incredibly charming characters, and Toby Fox's signature catchy score. Due to the long wait, combined with how big of a fanbase that both games have and this being the first time Deltarune has been brought to Steam, it's no surprise that Undertale's peak player count has been surpassed.

SteamDB is a database site for Valve's platform client, providing analytics and important information about the games on it. These include charts regarding the number of players concurrently playing at one time. The peak of players for Undertale was 6 years ago, with a little over 10,000 players at the tail end of 2015. In comparison, when Deltarune dropped unexpectedly the total concurrent player count for the game was over 100,000 players.

Despite how wildly popular Undertale is nowadays, Deltarune is proving to be a major achievement to how far Toby Fox has gone with the releases of these games. If this surge in Steam players isn't enough, reportedly, when the Chapter 2 demo of Deltarune was released on itch.io, there was a huge rush of traffic from everyone trying to download this game. This incredible spike was so intense that it managed to temporarily shut down the entire website.

With so many fans who have been patiently waiting for the full release of Deltarune, these demos show how much they adore the world of Deltarune, and want to see more. Fans who loved Deltarune should remember what happened in Chapter 1, as they get ready to explore Chapter 2's Cyber World, and how these events set up the upcoming Chapters too.

Deltarune: Chapters 1 and 2 are available now for PC via itch.io and Steam.
