Arkane Studios' Deathloop is now available on PC and PS5 and is already receiving high praise from critics and players. The first-person action-adventure game is said to live up to fans' high expectations for the developer of the Dishonored franchise. That doesn't mean that Arkane doesn't make mistakes from time to time, however. One Deathloop player has called attention to a very frustrating, game-ruining bug that led to the deletion of their progress as the character Colt.
The bug revolves around a button in Deathloop's settings that reads "Reset Colt's Progress." At first glance, that may seem like a rather silly button to be connected to a bug that deletes Colt's progress. That's rather the point of the button, after all. However, the bug is a little more nefarious than meets the eye. The issue is that just clicking on the button once will immediately delete all progress for Colt. There is a prompt that asks the player to confirm, but by then all progress will already have been deleted.

That means that any Deathloop player that enters the game's settings has the potential to accidentally delete all of their progress as Colt with a single stray click. It's a mistake with severe consequences for Deathloop players. And as most video game players know, stray clicks or selections happen. Sometimes it happens just scrolling down a menu or while trying to click on a different menu option. Sometimes it looks like something else has been selected or sometimes a controller gets sat on. That's what "Are you sure you want to do that" prompts are for, but Deathloop's doesn't work.
PSA: Do NOT click "Reset Colt's Progress" in the menu screen. The game will reset you regardless of if you press "Yes" or "No" from Deathloop
According to Deathloop players who have accidentally clicked the button, there's no recourse for the situation, either. Deathloop offers no way to revert the decision, as the save file has been erased. It even appears to immediately update the save file on Steam's cloud for PC players.
One player on Reddit says that they lost around 10 hours of progress on Colt when they accidentally clicked this button. Another says they were nearly finished with the game when they clicked the button accidentally, losing as much as 20 hours of Deathloop progress.
As far as Arkane Studios and Deathloop's social media presence goes, no official comment has been provided on the issue. It's obviously only affected a minority of players, but given how punishing of a bug is it would seem to demand some attention from Deathloop's developers. Hopefully, there's already a fix in the works and it'll arrive soon.
