Thymesia's release date announcement seems to have flown under the radar during this busy time in the industry, but Soulslike fans shouldn't miss out.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the game industry. Not only have there been major releases like Tales of Arise, Life is Strange: True Colors, and Deathloop, but the PlayStation Showcase got a lot of attention going into it. The showcase then dominated the news cycle, as new games like Wolverine, Spider-Man 2, God of War: Ragnarok, and more were all shown off by Sony.

This means everything from shortly before these reveals to directly after them were easily missed, and one of those announcements came from Thymesia. An action RPG made with Soulslike fans in mind, Thymesia combines fast-paced combat, an intricate plague weapon system, and more to create a hardcore experience for fans looking for a challenge. Of course, it remains to be seen how it all lands and how it all works, but a Soulslike experience similar to Dark Souls and an aesthetic similar to that of Bloodborne should put this game high on many fans’ wish lists.

Thymesia’s Release Date

So, the fact that its release date announcement flew under the radar is a bit surprising. Thymesia may not be up there with God of War: Ragnarok or even the upcoming Elden Ring quite yet, but this type of smaller, Soulslike game typically hits its stride at launch. And, on August 27, Team17 and OverBorder Studio announced that release date via Steam: December 7.

The announcement may have made it easy to miss, but the then-upcoming releases, announcements, and so on may have drawn some attention from it. Still, the matter of the fact is that Thymesia is launching later this year and in a good window where it’ll hopefully get the attention it deserves. Other December video game releases include the FPS Halo Infinite and the Survival Horror action RPG Dying Light 2, but neither of those will scratch that itch of a new Souls game.

Elden Ring does release a little over a month afterward on January 21, 2022, and that’s obviously Thymesia’s biggest competition. Getting out ahead of it is likely good for the game, as not only will it scratch the Soulslike itch ahead of Elden Ring, but it’ll more easily establish itself as its own game. Thus far, it has checked all the right boxes for fans of the genre. Either way, it’s one that many Soulslike fans should be keeping tabs on, especially now that they know when it releases.
