If there is one character designed to be hated in Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s Micah Bell. Dutch Van Der Linde is no hero, especially as his particular genius begins to devolve into villainy, but Micah Bell is the rat that tears the gang apart. He is so hated, in fact, that players may even be attempted to leave Micah in Strawberry’s jail during Chapter 2. Unfortunately, that’s not an option for those attempting to progress the story.
They’ll enter the jail as Arthur claiming to be a bounty hunter, but the lawmen of Strawberry won’t let Arthur in to see the prisoners, Micah included. Instead, Red Dead Redemption 2 players must go around the back of the jail and talk to him through the jail windows, where then Arthur will either use dynamite or a nearby steam-powered winch to blast a wall through, begin a big shootout in Strawberry, and escape with Micah.

For many Red Dead Redemption 2 players, these are the only two options they’ve used, but there is a third method. As pointed out by Redditor 2006pow, players can turn around after leaving the jail, go back in, and shoot the lawmen. Many may consider this an “evil” act of Arthur Morgan, but Micah has to escape and Arthur is going to kill them regardless of circumstance. Doing so, however, allows the player to take the jail keys and then unlock Micah’s cell.
In the other two methods, Micah—when freed—will then take a gun and kill the other prisoner, foreshadowing Micah’s erratic tendencies and failure to have any honor among thieves. That still happens in this third method, if slightly different, and it shows how this is a legitimized option from Rockstar Games. Given the sheer amount of small details in Red Dead Redemption 2, though, this comes across as no surprise.
Rockstar Games is incredibly thorough when it comes to making games, which is at least one reason why it takes Rockstar so long to produce games. Red Dead Redemption, for example, was released six years after Red Dead Revolver, and RDR2 was released eight years after the original RDR. Given how Grand Theft Auto 6 has yet to even be confirmed and isn’t likely to anytime soon, it’s likely to be an even longer wait for the inevitable release of Red Dead Redemption 3.
The good news is that Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, is believed to have several remasters and remakes in the works. Reportedly, if the GTA Remastered Trilogy that many believe will release next year does well, then Take-Two will ensure that a Red Dead Redemption remaster releases next. As such, perhaps the new few years won’t be entirely devoid of single-player Red Dead content.
