While Peter Parker and his web slinging alter-ego may be the star of many Marvel adventures, there are several other prominent figures in Spider-Man storylines. Family, friends and foes, these other characters have helped shape Peter into the hero we all recognize, leaving an impact on who he is for better or for worse. No other individual has left such a lasting impact as Uncle Ben, Peter's relative and father figure for his childhood and teenage years. Encouraging Peter to pursue his ambitions in the field of science, while never losing sight of his more gentle and playful side, Uncle Ben had an undeniable influence on shaping the essence of who Peter is as a character.
As even the most casual viewer of pop culture may know, Uncle Ben was tragically murdered, a consequence of Peter's own selfish decisions shortly after acquiring super powers. From then on, Peter vowed to live by Uncle Ben's words of wisdom: "with great power, comes great responsibility". This iconic quote from Uncle Ben has gone on to be the foundation for Spider-Man's ethics and moral code, something seen in the comics and many Spider-Man film adaptations. Being such a pivotal character, Uncle Ben has also been featured in some of the video games starring Spider-Man, with the most notable examples listed below.

Spider-Man (2002)
In the 2000's, nearly every major blockbuster film had a video game tie in to coincide with its release. The first Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie was no exception in 2002, with a video game adaptation being made available on every major platform at the time. With the movie breaking box office records left and right, eager fans naturally will have wanted to pick up the game to relive all of the action, stepping into the shoes (and spandex) of Spidey to leap off rooftops and fight crime.
While the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movie being an origin story means that it spends a good deal of time establishing the relationship between Peter and his Uncle Ben, the game doesn't emphasize this bond nearly as much. This makes sense, considering its nature as an action based video game, as the developers surely wanted to keep the momentum going from level to level. Even so, Uncle Ben does make a brief appearance during a cutscene after the first handful of missions in the game. Peter Parker is reminiscing on old times, turning the pages of a photo album, where an entire section dedicated to Uncle Ben can be seen.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
A few years after Tobey Maguire's portrayal of Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield donned the webbed suit for the silver screen. Both of the films in The Amazing Spider-Man duology received video game adaptations, with the second release featuring the most extenseive in-game appearance of Uncle Ben to date. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game by Beenox follows the events of the film while also integrating its own original story threads. Included in these creative liberties is an opening the game that revisits a pivotal moment from the first film.
In the opening moments of the game, players are given control of Peter Parker as he walks along the streets of New York. It becomes quickly evident that gamers are experiencing first hand the moments that lead up to the death of Uncle Ben. After a few moments of walking, a gunshot is heard and players see Uncle Ben's body laying on the street, as they then rush to his aid. For a licensed, movie-based game, this opening sequence is a shocking and somber way to kick off the events of an otherwise fast-paced Spidey adventure.
Marvel's Spider-Man
In recent years, Insomniac's effort with the Spider-Man mythos has sent big waves through the gaming community. The narrative wisely skips over the origin story, following a well-established Peter Parker with years of experience under his belt as a superhero. This means that Uncle Ben was killed long before the events of the game unfold, but that doesn't mean Insomniac completely leaves him out of the experience.
While exploring New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man, players are able to visit a cemetary in a location in the furthest North area of the game map. Here, eagle-eyed players will be able to spot Uncle Ben's grave, with a button prompt even appearing for Peter to pay his respects. Discovering this location also grants Spider-Man fans a PlayStation trophy titled "With Great Power...," calling back to the wise words Ben told Peter so many years ago.
