Rumor has it that Quantic Dream is working on a Star Wars game, but information on the subject seems to be a little all over the place.

Ever since Disney started releasing more Star Wars films in 2015, there has been an increase in Star Wars games. As such, there have been plenty of rumors regarding new Star Wars games in recent months. However, the latest leaks suggest that Quantic Dream, the studio responsible for making titles like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, is working on an unannounced Star Wars title. This rumor comes as something of a shock, as the developer seems like an odd pick for a Star Wars game based on its past history of development. While it certainly has been around for a while, Quantic Dream has never worked with an established IP before, and Star Wars seems like a pretty big place to start.

There isn't a whole lot of evidence to suggest that the studio is working on a Star Wars game, which means that fans of Quantic Dream and the IP should take all the news and rumors with a massive grain of salt. This isn't to say that it's entirely untrue, but that the rumor is far from confirmed. The list of evidence is short, but if more comes out soon, then it could build a stronger case for cementing the game's existence.

The Initial Quantic Dream/Star Wars Rumor

The entire reason that anyone is speculating about a Quantic Dream Star Wars game in the first place is because a reputable leaker tweeted a photo of an android from Detroit: Become Human with two lightsabers in front of him. The photo lacked a caption or other context, but the poster was liking comments that speculated about a Quantic Dream Star Wars title. The leaker, Tom Henderson, later clarified that a source told him that the game has been in development for over 18 months.

There still isn't anything to corroborate this information, but Henderson seems to have doubled down on the idea. He tweeted yesterday that Quantic Dream is preparing for a teaser trailer but is waiting on Disney's approval. In the same tweet, he claims that the studio is using Unit Image, an established animation studio with plenty of past work in games, to make the teaser.

That's the extent of what Henderson has had to say about the title so far. While the claims have come pretty quickly over the last week or so, the information actually originated from French YouTuber Gautoz, who made a video telling a similar story about the studio. While Gautoz's video was released first, the rumors really began spreading once Henderson made his tweet. Both Henderson and Gautoz seem to be promising that something is going to happen soon, but fans might just have to wait for an official announcement to know for certain.

What Quantic Dream is Up To

So far, the French studio hasn't said anything about the rumors connecting it to Star Wars. Based on current speculation, it could make sense that a Star Wars game is in the pipeline, as the studio's Sony exclusivity deal ended with the release of Detroit: Become Human. What's more, EA will no longer have exclusive publishing rights for all Star Wars titles starting in 2023, so that opens the door for a Quantic Dream title to be released afterward. The studio told IGN in February that it's working on something new that will use storytelling devices that it "hasn't tried out yet," but didn't mention anything regarding Star Wars. The new project was also mentioned in a recent Nvidia leak, going under the mysterious name "project QD next." At the end of the day, it seems like Quantic Dream is working on something new, but there still isn't anything concrete that confirms its game is set in a galaxy far, far away.
