Players that are trying to find a Recon Scanner in Fortnite Season 8 can learn where this item comes from in this short guide.

Escaped Tenant is a new questline in Fortnite Season 8, which players can initiate by speaking with an NPC named Wrath in Stealthy Stronghold. To complete the first part of this questline, fans must spot enemies using the Recon Scanner, and some players may be unclear about exactly where that item can be found. Fortunately, there are numerous possible sources for Recon Scanners in Fortnite, and full details can be found in what follows.

Where to Find a Recon Scanner in Fortnite Season 8

To get right to it, players that are on the hunt for a Recon Scanner should turn their attention to the various IO Outposts that are scattered across Fortnite’s map. More specifically, fans should loot the large rectangular chests that are housed at these locations, as Recon Scanners are occasionally found within them. While players that have been keeping up with this season’s challenges will be quite familiar with the positions of the IO Outposts, the map that is found below may still be helpful.

To note, Recon Scanners are not guaranteed drops from IO Chests, and thus players may need to open several of them before they obtain the item that they are looking for. This should not prove to be extremely problematic, though, as there are quite a number of these chests in the game. Indeed, so long as fans exercise a bit of patience and take care around Fortnite’s IO Guards, they should ultimately get their hands on a Recon Scanner.

How to Spot Enemy Players with the Recon Scanner in Fortnite

After obtaining a Recon Scanner, players are ready to move onto the next phase of this challenge: using the gun to spot enemy players. To do this, Fortnite fans should simply find an adversary and shoot the weapon in their general direction. Players should then wait for the Recon Scanner’s pulsating projectile to pass by the opponent and turn them red, and they should then repeat this process with a second foe to complete the challenge.

With respect to what fans will earn for spotting two enemy players using the Recon Scanner, the reward is 12,000 XP. While this may not be a tremendous amount of XP, it will be helpful to those players that are trying to make progress on Fortnite’s Season 8 Battle Pass. Additionally, finishing the challenge will give fans access to further Escaped Tenant quests, which also award XP upon their completion.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
