The end of 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting time for FPS fans. With new entries confirmed to be arriving in the Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield franchises, there is no shortage of triple-A games coming this holiday season. With Call of Duty: Vanguard already hosting a beta last week and Halo Infinite planning a new wave of multiplayer previews, many fans of Battlefield 2042 are wondering when they will receive a chance to check out the next installment in the series.
Battlefield 2042 is the newest game in the FPS series developed by DICE. While the game lacks a single-player campaign this time around, the developers look to provide more customization for players through the new Portal mode. This new sandbox mode gives players the freedom to design the type of multiplayer experience that they want out of content from four different Battlefield games. While gamers are eager to test out the multiplayer for themselves as part of an upcoming beta, new details seem to suggest that last-gen gamers might not be able to join in on the action.

Recently, Okami Games on Twitter discovered new info that suggests that last-generation consoles might not get a beta for Battlefield 2042. This Twitter account known for gaming news and rumors revealed that early access for the upcoming open beta for the PS4 version had been removed from the PlayStation Store. This early access was originally part of the Battlefield 2042 pre-order bonus for PS4 owners.
It’s worth noting that this is just speculation from Okami Games as EA hasn’t commented on the status of the last-gen beta for Battlefield 2042. Furthermore, the Twitter user pointed out that the Xbox Store continues to show beta early access for Xbox One. It will be interesting to see if this Xbox One posting gets removed from the Xbox Store or if the early access for the PS4 version gets reposted in the future.
While the fate of a Battlefield 2042 beta for Xbox One and PS4 remains uncertain, EA hasn't officially revealed the start date for when gamers can jump into the upcoming beta on other platforms as well. However, Battlefield 2042 leaker Tom Henderson has claimed that the action is expected to get underway on October 6 for early access users. According to the leaker, the beta should then open to all gamers on October 8. Henderson had originally predicted an earlier date, but the recent delay of the game until November 19 caused him to adjust his predicted date for the beta. However, like with the possible removal of the last-gen beta for PS4 and Xbox One, these dates could turn out to be incorrect.
Battlefield 2042 launches November 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
