Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a Pixar-like game with an emotional story. It's all about collectibles, exploration, taking photos with Kena's amazing photo mode, and building meaningful connections with other characters. But combat is also a large part of the game, including the very difficult parrying system.
Combat in Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Kena: Bridge of Spirits features fights with all manner of corrupted spirits that are plaguing the forest. In order to put those spirits to rest and reclaim the beauty of Kena's stunningly gorgeous scenery, the player will have to battle progressively difficult enemies. Even when players level her shield, Kena can still take damage from some of the biggest and scariest of the bosses.

Players can shield and dodge from damage, but a better way is to parry. Parrying allows players to push their opponent's attack back and deal their own damage at the same time, making it the best option of the three. Kena: Bridge of Spirits has a unique parrying timer that can be difficult for some to master.
How to Learn to Parry in Kena
Parrying is simple to learn but very difficult to get the timing down. When the enemy begins to swing for its attack, players will have to activate their shield. On PlayStation consoles, this is the L1 button. On PC, this button will be the E key. This will trigger the bubble of Kena's shield just as the attack tries to connect with her. Once players have the timing down correctly, they will be able to counter enemy attacks which will stun the enemy, slow down time for a moment, and push the enemy backwards.
There are also a couple of unlockable upgrades to parrying available to Kena for the cost of some Karma. Players gain Karma by cleaning corruption, killing enemies, and solving puzzles. With a little work, players can unlock these two upgrades:
- Parry Counter: After a successful parry, Kena executes a spin attack when pressing Light Attack.
- Parry Courage: After a successful parry, Kena gets a Rot combat ability action.
PlayStation Trophies that Require Parrying in Kena
In order to unlock all the trophies for Kena: Bridge of Spirits, players will need to learn to parry. There is one trophy that requires it: the Triple Threat trophy, which requires players to destroy three enemies with a single parry.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
