The man with the ponytail is back as Cobra Kai's fourth season promises tons of karate-fueled teenage drama just in time to close out 2021.

Cobra Kai's third season brought back a lot of Karate Kid 2 memories and it looks like part four will deliver the same for the much-derided Karate Kid 3, as the new season 4 trailer has finally revealed a release date and the series’ new villain, Terry Silver.

Even before season four premieres, Cobra Kai has already been confirmed by Netflix to be getting a fifth season as the company looks to seize on the success of one of its most-watched shows. Season three set up a new all-out confrontation as John Kreese completely overtook the Cobra Kai dojo, forcing Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso to work together with their students to rescue the soul of the valley, because that’s just how big karate is around these parts.

Come New Year’s Eve, the students from “Eagle Fang” will head over to the Miyagi-Do dojo to undergo a new brand of training that reconciles their senseis' radically different views on karate. The Cobra Kai season 4 trailer confirms several consequences from this alliance, with Hawk and Demitri back as friends, Johnny still on romantic terms with Carmen, and Miguel and Sam rekindling their relationship. The preview also teases the chance that Tori and Robby might end up together to make for an even more awkward reunion between all these exes.

Of course, the real icing on the cake here is seeing Terry Silver tie up his hair, as he probably brings Kreese a healthy dose of financial aid to prepare for the All-Valley tournament that has Amanda so stressed. Other noteworthy shots show Johnny may be recruiting a new gymnast student, Tori possibly crashing the high school prom, and Johnny pulling off a classic crane kick in class.

One of the more interesting aspects that Silver’s inclusion brings is how Daniel will feel about all of this since he was briefly his student during Karate Kid 3, thus he more than anyone has a great understanding of how dangerous the Kreese-Silver alliance can be for young teenagers. It’s worth pointing out that Johnny actually never got to meet Silver because he had already left Cobra Kai in Karate Kid 2, meaning the show’s writers really have a lot to play with in terms of the plot until Cobra Kai's fifth season five rolls in.

Cobra Kai worked marvelously well for Netflix as a New Year’s Day release in 2021, so sending off the year by bringing the show back really sticks to the same formula that promises another soundtrack from the '80s. At least the Larusso’s fixed their house just as well as the people buying it to turn it into a Cobra Kai Airbnb.

Cobra Kai season four premieres exclusively on Netflix on December 31, 2021.
